Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Mar 3, 2009 750ml bottle from the Sam’s in Downers Grove, Illinois: It pours a slightly hazed ruby body with a brown tint and a modest pink hued head. It has an aroma of sweaty horse hide, damp wood, and overly ripe (and getting riper) berries and cherries. A couple of fresh raspberries were dropped into the flavor pool as well as some mild tartness. The finsih is dry and leaves a funky feeling in the mouth. Intersting drink that I kindasorta like, but I really don’t want to shop in the produce marts of those who found "fresh fruit" in this. [Insert winking emoticon here.] ggaughan (94), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Luxembourg Mar 1, 2009 Bottle purchased in the Netherlands. Beer poured a clear, deep red color with a slight pink head into my Cantillon glass. The head receeded quickly. The aroma was strong upon popping the cork, vibrant framboise, a bit funky and tart as well. The raspberry taste was lovely and fresh tasting. What you would expect for a true version of the style. Some oaky notes as well. Overall a well rounded and damn fine beer that I wish I had more often but it is to be savored. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Feb 9, 2009 Graciously sampled courtesy of the Indy crew, who brought it hard at Footie. 2007 bottle, with a huge vibrant pour, carbonation whipping up the pale pink body and releasing all the wonderfully complex aromas - woody, super dry fruits, champagne. Not much bite to it, as it’s surprisingly easy drinking. Lovely complexity, the kind of thing you could drink forever. (Rating #2202) ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Feb 8, 2009 Thanks to the Indy crew for sharing this at the sexual chocolate tasting. Bright and shiny pink pour with a thin fizzy white head. Dry acidic fruity aroma. Flavor had hints of wood, raspberries and cherry. Slightly acidic dry finish bleeng (587), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Jan 29, 2009 750 bottle thanks to Yves Panneels at In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst. Beautiful light purple color heavily filtered. Nose of fruity raspberries, tart, woody-sharp and distinct. Taste comes off somewhat woody, very tart, with a nice mix of cherries and raspberries. Very light body with nice carbonation-even after 2 years in the bottle. Not an overwhelming fruity taste but the tartness and tanginess and evervescence make this a wonderful drink. Way too easy to put down. The best of it’s kind.
