Martinus (19), Nijmegen, Netherlands Jan 24, 2009 Unfortunately this marvelous beer has not been brewed for a while, but the brewer told he was thinking of making it again
With some friends we shared a bottle at the 3 fonteinen restaurant.
It is a shiny deep red brew with a pretty pinkish head. It has a delightful, fresh fruit aroma, with champagne and some honey.
The taste is beautiful fruit, nice acidity and tartness, reminding of champagne and red wine. BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Jan 18, 2009 Bottled on Feb 14, 2007 thanks to Yem25. Pours with a lightly pink, creamy head and a very muddy, deep red body with great lacing. Aroma is champagne notes with raspberry, horse hair, vinegar, cherries, pineapple, vanilla, toffee and mustiness. Taste is complex with champagne, raspberries, oats, barnyard, cherries...Complex and clean. Light amount, but tickling bubbles with a dry mouthfeel. m4rest88 (216), Beverly Hills, California, USA Jan 18, 2009 Wow! Bottle shared with bman1113vr. My favorite beer style are lambiks, so this was definitely a treat!
Pours with a redish amber hue, with a small white head that is mostly diminishing.
I got some citrus, spices, and surprisingly enough some dark fruits in the nose, mainly prunes and dates. Some yeast as well.
Flavor has a syrupy beginning - kind of sweet, but very slight, with a sour ending. The beer overall has a bready/yeasty, champagne flavor to it that is complemented nicely with the fruit notes as well. A very complex taste indeed!
Medium texture with light carbonation!
A great Lambik!!! DrHomolka (725), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 16, 2009 750ml bottle. Bottled Feb 14 2007. Pours a muddy, bloody pink with a big bubbly rosy head while I’m pouring that has no retention whatsoever. Beautiful color, appearance is completely flat. Aroma shows awesome signs of funk and fruit. Total fruit bomb. Juicy, ripe, intense raspberries. Wow that it is an amazing fruit aroma. There is a slight medicinal quality to this, or it could just be a reminder of other Raspberry wine/mead/beers I’ve had that were bad or medicinal. Vanilla and floral notes are also apparent. Barnyard is pretty subtle, funk is more of a urinal/lemon rind quality. Taste is very fruity, acidic, dry, tart. A long, lemony raspberry finish. This is nice. I don’t think it’s the best fruit lambic I’ve had (that would be belong to Lou Pepe Kriek) but it’s above most of it’s class. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic Jan 6, 2009 first sampled at rbesg07 grand tasting, then a bottle courtesy of duff, shared with betty. bright pink coloured with an off-pink head which died quickly. aroma of grapefruit rind, swimming pool and jerking off in a cherry orchard, some sherbet and cherry ripe flavours with hints of apple raspberry flavoured cottee’s cordial and masking tape. the sourness is balanced but still vigorous, beautiful stuff chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 2, 2009 Solid brew, but I had such high expectations. Pours pink/red with a white head. Aroma of cherries, raspberries, oak, and the usual funk. Sour and tart while still being balanced. Finishes dry and still has the bite. For the cost of the bottle though, I don’t know if I am going to go back. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Dec 20, 2008 Candied raspberries swirl with hints of funkiness and spices in the aroma. Medium tart flavor has great fruit with just enough wild elements to really make it an interesting brew. Excellent. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 4, 2008 Pours candy pink, with pinkish-white cloudy big head. Smells funky, alcohol though low, penetrates the nose. Great mouthfeel, raspberries lambic bullseyes the style. Satisfying aftertaste. Oh so drinkable.
