Bottle from Super Saver. Magenta/burgundy pour, with small pink head. The aroma is oaky cherry, with some funky assy malts. The taste is very tart, with a lot of cherries, coupled with some earthy taint and cobwebby cabernet. I liked this one a tad more than the FFF oude gueuze.

Bottled. Rich, deep bright red, paper-thin layer of pink head, but not for long. Light Cherry nose with sweetness, sourness and some tart. Sublte strange note, too, might be this "leather" that’s been mentioned below. First sip was mouth-turning, highly acidic, metallic, vinegary, and quite enthusiastically sour. Cherry seems to be one of the lesser flavors. Not sweet at all. Very dry. This isn’t the type of heavy sourness that makes me want to drink all night (like, say, a Gose) - it’s not very cheerful. Still, interesting, which is reason enough.

Hazy reddish color. Very small & bubbly head. Aroma is of sour cherries, vinegar and maybe something citrusy. Very tart & sour flavor. Good presence of cherries, but very dry finish. Nice, but not blown away.

750ml bottle shared by argo0: Pours to a brilliant pink-garnet body, with very tiny champagne-like bubbles rising to meet the large rose, frothy & creamy white head that sticks nicely. The aroma is very dry cherries, tart barnyard, bitter earth, and hints of sweet cherry syrup. Taste is tart without being very acidic (think Cantillon’s initial shock), earthy cherries, bitter unripened cherry, crabapple, with some mild wheat, light sweet malts hidden in the background, a light touch of acidic vinegar towards the middle, and bits of aged wood barrel, red zinger tea, and unripened kiwi. Finishes with some mild wood and fresh cherry flavors. The mouthfeel and palate are just about perfect here: medium bodied, feeling crisp and gentle, while being medium-lively carbonated, but the carbonation here is the excellent fully bottle conditioned (Methode Champagnoise) to produce very fine, feathery bubbles.

(750ml bottle, bottled Feb. 26, 2005) Pink and creamy medium pink head atop a lightly garnet body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry, sour, some funk, wood, light vinegar. Taste is medium sweet, sour/tart cherry, some vinegar. Light-medium body with nice crispness, some acidity, faint syrup -- still, somehow seems a bit thin. Very nice beer, but this is not going to make you forget about the finest Drie Fonteinen has to offer.

Thx. to Tim. Brillian ruby, thin pinkish head. Nose is cherries, earthy spiciness (or cough syrup) Flavor is nothing like the nose - acidic, well but not overly fruity. Oak more than fruit. Rather fresh lemon & raspberry finish.

Aroma is tart cherries and chinese stir fry vegetableish. Pinkish red with a pinky think-pink head. Sour cherry fore and little else save a pervsive vegetal flavor. It isn’t even all that sour and it has a thin palate. Not nearly as fine as the oude gueze. A dissapointment.
