Fruity, smooth and mildly bitter kriek. Delicious. 75 cL from the 2007 batch, sipped from champagne flutes. Way better than any champagne I’ve had. Pours blood read with a bubbly, pink head. Nose is full of wild and black cherries. Sour flavor is restrained by a surprising layer of hoppy and acidic bitterness, makes a tasty, harmonious balance. Fruit is less than intense in the flavor. Dry finish. Fantastic.

[Bottle at Ølbaren] Pours hazy deep red with small short lasting pink head. Sour aroma with fresh authentic cherry and oak notes. Sour flavor with lovely cherry notes that finishes of with nice citric acid character. Great complexity. Great beer!

Sweet raspberry aroma. Pours a cloudy red with thin head. Sweet fruit aroma and tart finish. Acids and carbonation make for a lively palate.

Shared at miketd’s tasting

This was my final sample of the night before taking off for home. I was glad to give it a try. It reinforces my desire to hunt down a bottle for myself despite the price tag. Perhaps once I clear some room in the cellar I’ll go ahead and pull the trigger next time I am in Ann Arbor. Those of you in Europe who can get this cheaply should consider yourself lucky.

Aroma / Appearance - The body was a rich cherry red (almost like Belgian Red but with more head). Tart cherries created an intensely sour nose. Unlike some Cantillon products though it was not strong enough to turn my stomach.

Flavor / Palate - Very sour acidic cherries was the primary star of this sample. It did not immediately attack the lining of my stomach like Lou Pepe Kriek but it was very close. This is definitely one for sipping unless you have a cast iron stomach. I will definitely have to try to get this again for a special occasion.

Bottle. 2006 vintage. Pleasant tartness initially on the nose. Some sour cherry. A hint of musty barnyard funk, but not too overpowering. Restrained and balanced. Pours rich, ruby pink. Mildly tart and sour on the tongue. Some acidic tart cherry notes, but far from sweet. Medium bodied. Vibrant carbonation. Finishes with a burst of pleasant acidity.
