Delicious. 75 cL from the 2007 batch, sipped from champagne flutes. Way better than any champagne I’ve had. Pours blood read with a bubbly, pink head. Nose is full of wild and black cherries. Sour flavor is restrained by a surprising layer of hoppy and acidic bitterness, makes a tasty, harmonious balance. Fruit is less than intense in the flavor. Dry finish. Fantastic. This was my final sample of the night before taking off for home. I was glad to give it a try. It reinforces my desire to hunt down a bottle for myself despite the price tag. Perhaps once I clear some room in the cellar I’ll go ahead and pull the trigger next time I am in Ann Arbor. Those of you in Europe who can get this cheaply should consider yourself lucky.
Aroma / Appearance - The body was a rich cherry red (almost like Belgian Red but with more head). Tart cherries created an intensely sour nose. Unlike some Cantillon products though it was not strong enough to turn my stomach.
Flavor / Palate - Very sour acidic cherries was the primary star of this sample. It did not immediately attack the lining of my stomach like Lou Pepe Kriek but it was very close. This is definitely one for sipping unless you have a cast iron stomach. I will definitely have to try to get this again for a special occasion. gottalottaibu (243), charlotte, North Carolina, USA
