bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Aug 16, 2006 Updated: Sep 9, 2006 Man, I hope I come across a decent bottle of this some day. So far I’ve had two, and they’ve both produced something sub-standard. However, I’m still going to rate it on that as I gave it a second chance at least. Poured a golden orange yellow with a loose white head that didn’t last at all. Had a lemony pilsenerish aroma with a touch of wet dog. Taste was very dry and spicy. The alcohol was overly present, and it had a bitter finish. Nowhere near the smoothness I expected from this beer. I’ll keep trying though.
Metalhead (542), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA Oct 26, 2008 Bright gold pour. Big rocky head. Aroma was yeast , citrus and must. Flavor was yeast a tad citrus but had a really bad perfume like and dry finish. Glad this was free. cellar (409), Dublin, Ireland Oct 12, 2008 Clear gold, carbonated, with nice headd. Strong fruity aroma of ripe banana, yeast and malt. Some spices develops in mouth. Flavour is very sweet and finish as well. ALcohol well hidden. DocLock (4173), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 16, 2008 Bottle from Capone’s. Pours hazy gold with 3-finger, fluffy off-white head. Nose is dry florals, rock sugary malt, and hopcitrus. Tastes floral, on the dry side, with some hopcitrus, earthy yeasty, and estery notes. Medium, well carbonated palate. JesseM (423), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Sep 6, 2008 Updated: Oct 30, 2008750mL bottle from a trade with a friend in Ottawa. This is a style I’m really interested in right now, so I’ll pretty much take any examples of it to try. This one pours a very pale gold with a large white head. The aroma is not as funky as I was hoping, but it’s still intriguing. Alcohol, with nice straw-like malts and some nice Earthy hop presence, and the mildest hints of funk. The taste is more of the same, with a nice fuller feel from the ABV. Some sourish corn, but it actually seems intended and isn’t as gross as you might think. The alcohol is definitely there, but not at all cloying. Nicely hopped, a touch of pepper, and with a generally woody touch to it which is quite nice. Mild yeast component and tinny flavour to the finish as well. Very good IMO, but just not enough funkyness to it to really make it a standout. Probably a bang on blonde Biere de Garde. maeib (4042), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Aug 20, 2008 Bottled. A bright orange/gold coloured beer with a bright white head. The aroma is slightly spicy with grassy hops and yeasty notes. The taste is spicy, peppery hops. A bit of funk and good yeastiness. Pretty good.
