Commercial Description:
This 500 year old Belgian style wheat beer became nearly extinct until the late 1970’s when Pierre Celis revived a languishing brewery in Hoegaarden and began brewing Witbier again. Ours is a true Wit, brewed with 50% un-malted wheat then delicately spiced at the end of the boil with dried Curacao Bitter Orange Peel, Sweet Orange Peel and Coriander. A slight lactic sourness is induced in secondary fermentation to balance the Wit’s creaminess and make it a tart, smooth, quenching summer brew.

Color is a somewhat cloudy amber gold with a thick but not persistent head. Aroma is strong, very wheaty and malty, with strong lemon hints. Flavor is rich, wheaty-malty, with some hop edge to it. Refreshing, smooth, this is a great beer for late summer and early fall.

This is a very good witbier. The classic tastes of wheat, orange peel, corinader, and sourness from lactobacillus make this a joy to drink. Very good summer beer, ultra-refreshing. Highly recommended.

Appearance: Pours a lightly hazy, golden-yellow body with a thin, white head. Smell: Delicate wheat nose, very lightly tangy, precedes fruity, slightly sour scents. Particularly distinct are the orange peel and spice notes. Taste: Soft wheat and light pale maltiness with a pinch of table sugar. White peach fruitiness seasoned with coriander. Bitterish Curaçao orange peel taste. Slight perceived sourness. Light, though balancing bitterness. Drying, lightly crisp finish with a lasting spice note. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Ample medium-high carbonation. Drinkability: A good, enjoyable witbier to gulp down on the 5 Seasons outside patio on a sultry summer night.

Whata wit. Nose and flavours of pepper, citrus and jerky. So wheaty I want to die. G-rat

Clear, lemon yellow body and a pillowy white head. Floral, lime coriander in the aroma with a hint of orange peel and light clove-like phenols. Phenols come through more prominently in the flavor and become a touch too plastic. Dry with moderate bitterness, but the impression is more orange peel than hops. A solid wit and refreshing summer beer.

Draft sample at brewpub. Poured hazy golden to yellow color with an average creamy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate yeasty sweet citrus aroma. Medium body with a light sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet spicy finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Big creamy white head with an appropriately cloudy and pale yellow body. Nose is faint hint of coriander there. The taste is a bit sour up front, crisp wheat, light coriander, tastes more like lemon peel than orange peel though. Estery.

6/22/05 rerate. Draft, half pint. Hazy golden raisin hue with a frothy, white head. Sweet orange, corriander, peaches, lemons (light), and pears (light). Moderately sweet, lightly acidic flavor becomes a lightly sweet, moderately acidic (tart) finish. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: quite an enjoyable wit with a good balance of sweet/tart. Orange and curacao aromas over typical wheat beer scents. A little watery, but a nice sweetness throughout. Good spices.
