thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 16, 2003 Updated: Jan 11, 2004 TheDM and Hotstuff vacation brew 33. This draft brew was enjoyed at the brewery in Atlanta Georgia. Dennis, the owner, treated us royally. He kept bringing sample after sample to our table. We were given every courtesy and treated very well. Thanks to their fine staff. This brew poured large creamy head of light brown colored finely sized bubbles that left behind a most excellent lace for a stout and an opaque black body with no visible carbonation. The head was very interesting. After it settled down it appeared mottled with black and light brown foam on top. It was so long lasting it appeared that it would stay foamy forever. It had a very mild coffee aroma and a thin smooth mouthfeel from start to finish. The flavor was mostly of dark malts with some coffee in it. The head was just soooo remarkable! Awesome!
BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA Apr 7, 2008 I will take this over most dry stouts out in the trade anyday. Big head that is lightly tan and of little character that fades away rather quickly. A rugged roasted coffee flavor, blends with a bit of dark chocolate and cocoa notes in the aftertaste. Decent. BBB63 (3810), La Porte, Indiana, USA Mar 18, 2008 Tap at brewpub and served with nitro: Near black with a tan creamy nitro pour head and very good lace. The aroma is roasty and charred, chocolate, herbal and flowery hops, walnut and a hint soapy. The taste is dark malts, bittersweet with a mild hop background. Very light smoke and nutty qualities on the finish. The mouth feel is creamy but thin. A very average brewpub paint-by-numbers dry stout. unclemattie (1620), Georgia, USA Mar 13, 2008 Tap. Pours black, tan creamy head. Nitro tasting. Aroma is dry. Hints of licorice flavor. Flavor is dry, toasted grain. Finishes very dry and chalky. BigMilly8 (373), Holiday, Florida, USA Mar 2, 2008 From tap at brewpub : Black pour, carbonated, with a big time creamy offwhite head. This baby leaves big thick lacing, like whipped cream thick. Taste is faint, come coffee, but has a big expresso finish. Very smooth with a medium body. Really enjoyed this one. extremeicon (105), Wichita, Kansas, USA Sep 3, 2007 Very dark blackish color that shows a very tiny hint of ruby red when held up to direct light. Minimal creamy off-white head that lasts and leaves significant lacing. Aroma primarily of coffee and roasted malt. Taste a nice mix of coffee and very dark, bittersweet chocolate. Very smooth on the palate with minimal carbonation. Sampled while on a road trip to the K-State/Auburn game (thanks to the brewery, I’ll at least be taking home one pleasant memory of that trip).
