Lots of caramel present along with some brown sugar and bananas. The finish was yeasty and slightly alcoholic. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 22, 2006 Bottle no. 63 of 180, shared by Ughsmash. Unfiltered, orangish-cherry blossom glow with an ice peninsula and a white doily rung to serve as the head. Cinnamon and nutmeg meet with ginger, allspice and pumpkin pie spice to give a lovely aromatic introduction, not without mentioning the significant touch of fried bananas in caramelizing brown sugar. Sulfur-tinge sneaks in at the end of the first sip moments after the ginger snap cookies register. Liquefied toffee chews and a peppered press upon the palate are smoothed over by holiday nuts and touches of cocoa dust. Effervescence is up there, but dissipates encouragingly to elicit maximum flavor potential. Somewhat lighter bodied, winding down with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and holiday nut bread. 1FastSTi (2560), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 20, 2006 Thanks Jason for sharing bottle #63/180 bottled on 8-11-05. The beer pours to a chestnut colored body with a nice white head. The aroma is minerally, much like an Abbaye de Rocs Brune. Kiwi fruit. The flavor is minterally, yeasty, light banana, lemongrass. Delicious. The palate is medium bodied, minerally, great carbonated feel. Really darn good beer. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2006 Dense brown, thick creamy tan head. Rich complex nose of banana, clove, pear, apple, and chocolate covered raisins. Brown sugar coated apple and pears lead the flavor charge, with further notes of spiced raisins sprinkled throughout. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dark fruity finish. Very good representation of the abbey ale… TheBeerOrg (1577), Kentucky, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2006 Pours dark burgundy with a thin, mostly receding head. Aroma of toasted pale malts, cloves, and apples. Taste is sweet and yeasty, more phenolic than estery. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and sticky with lush carbonation. This is just a bit too sweet and sticky, a bit more dryness and a few more fruity esters would have made this delicious. Dickinsonbeer (3490), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 26, 2006 Tap at the 5 seasons. Not many brewers make a belgian brown ale, and even the ones from Belgium arent that mindblowing. This, however, was really great, and different. Pours a nice deep brown with a good fluffy tan head and nice lace in the snifter. Aroma is of spices, phenols banana and other fruity esters, ripe apple, prunes and raisin. Malty sweet flavor with more phenols toward the end. Sweet candied fruits, apricots, plum and more raisin. Smooth and yeasty, but not dirty or harsh. This was a great belgian interpretation of a belgian brown- better and smoother than Corsendonk. doubleipa (224), Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 17, 2006 Served in a nice snifter. At least a half inch of creamy, tan head. Fair amount of lacing with a head that last pretty long. Aroma has hops, though subdued, maly, and yeast, with malt the predominate aroma. This is another great beer from the 5’s. It was served a bit too cold. As my wife commented, I wish they would list the ABV of their beers. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 12, 2004 This doesn’t appear to be one of the higher rated 5 Season’s brews, but it is one of my favorites there. A very nice balance of color, malt, aroma, alcohol warmth with little hop aroma and flavor. Great with dessert.
