Commercial Description:
A golden lager in the traditional Munich brewing style. This is what you find on tap in Bavaria instead of a Pilsener. With more malt character and less hop bitterness than a pilsener, our Helles is full flavored but crisp. Slightly lighter bodied than our Seven Sisters Münchner.

clear golden yellow, whispy white head, nice lace, candy sweet malt aroma, nice sweet malt flavor, light bitterness in the finish, good balance for a sweet beer, more flavor than I’d expect from a hellis

Golden with a fairly thick head. Slightly bready, but overall mild aroma. Palate is bready and clean. It’s a fresh, refreshing brew.

Cask Stillage from the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 26/09/2009 Bready malt aroma. Bronze coloured hoppy and floral with a little dryness in a crisp malt finish.

(Draught) Pours a lightly hazy yellow body with a small white creamy head. Aroma of butter and citrus. Flavor of lemon and wheat. Light, clean, and refreshing summer brew.

My Bottom Line:
Crispy straw and delicate noble hops are sent to a drying finish where prickly carbonation tends to override the mild cereal and hop apport. This is yet another efficient session beer from 5 Seasons, but one which appears storyless when compared to their Seven Sisters Münchner.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam settles onto the clear gold.
-The body is lean and perhaps more approachable to neophytes than their Seven Sisters, a fantastic Vienna.
-Even though it is malt driven, few malt flavors really shine; it is not crunchy enough for my tastes in Helles.
-Supporting hop bitterness is really low, which seems to be what the brewer wanted, but I would personally have preferred a tad more noble hop presence.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pale Golden color with a creamy light head. The aroma is faint but notes of butter & citrus. Flavor is smooth and mild with a nice malt profile in the mouthfeel. This was a pretty well made Helles that definately gets my attention.

Dark gold body with a white head. The aroma was meaty with some bread. There was also some rich almond notes in this one. The taste was rich biscuit with some almond shell. Nice clean, dry finish.

Tap at brewpub: Clean golden hue with small frothy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of apple and apricot esters, grainy, butterscotch, and flowery hops. The taste is pale sweet malts with some fruity notes. Dry biscuity finish. The mouth feel is clean and crisp, refreshing. Solid beers but nothing too excitable, needs more noble hop bitterness.
