Commercial Description:
Pumpkin beers are a complete pain in the ass to brew - but also a lot of fun I have to admit. I got almost 100 lbs of fresh pumpkins from a local, organic farm. I cut them up, baked them off, and then scooped their flesh directly in the mash tun to a base of Maris Otter and 5 different specialty malts to give the beer a sturdy malt backbone. Traditional pumpkin pie spices were added in the kettle.

on tap from a 300 lb pumpkin on 11/5/09. pours a light orange color with no head. big pumpkin / spice nose... which continues through the body... light to medium mouthfeel... big malt character with nutmeg and more spices... the pumpkin is much more prevalent on the nose than through the body. somewhat of a lighter finish. enjoyable.

Hazy orange, white froth. Nice allspice, pumpkin pie spicing. Taste is clove, a bit of spice, heavy with sweet malty base to hold it up.

Deep warm amber, not much head. Mild spicy aroma. Nice notes of nutmeg, not vegetal at all but the body has some of the pumpkin squash character. Low carbonation, rather thin in finish. Spice flavors are all up front and then vanish out at the end.

Comes out of the tap a beautiful clear coppery orange with a thick, pale orange-beige head that hangs around for a bit. Aroma is spicy and has a decided overtone of pumpkin. Flavor is richly of pumpkin and malt with hints of cloves and cinnamon and a hoppy undertone. Smooth texture makes this beer refreshing and satisfying.

Nice spicy aroma. Flavor of pumkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Like drinking a glass of spice cake. Good for one beer but not all night. Good seasonal ale. Pass the pecan pie.

Sampler. Pours a dark amber. Small, off white head. Aroma of pumpkin and cinnamon. Flavor is really well balanced. Pumpkin flavors are nice and subtle. Cinnamon and nutmeg spices come through near the end. The finish is slightly bitter. One of the better pumpkin beers I tried this year.

Appearance: Pours a hazy caramel-colored body with a thin ring of off-white bubbles. Smell: Aroma of spiced caramel and fresh pumpkin innards. Taste: Rich, sweet caramel malts with a touch of breadiness. Very fresh-tasting pumpkin flavor with a blip of tart fruitiness. Subdued cinnamon spice character and a touch of earthy bitterness. The sweetness gets a second wind and picks back up for the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Very mild carbonation. Drinkability: A very nice pumpkin ale full of flavor and good, wholesome fun.
