Commercial Description:
Celtic brewers used caramel malts and roasted barley to impart a deep red color and rich malty flavour to their ales. Starting with this style, we worked for over two years developing and perfecting our 21st Century version. It’s Big. It’s Red. An Irish Red Ale with a North American attitude. All the body you want with just the right amount of hoppy goodness. This market research batch launches O’Dempsey’s "beer to die for" into the Atlanta area and "Big Red" will be available at your favorite pubs and retail outlets in the South East in early 2010. Enjoy.

Draft pint at the Prado brewpub. Very dark red with a head that’s a bit watery. This packs a nice aroma of roasted malt and the first taste follows suit. Sweet and malty, his has a solid caramel character. Bit thin. (#3722, 10/26/2009)

Very clear, but very dark ruby. Served with a large faded khaki head. Thick foam holds craters from larger burst bubbles for a while. Crisp hops in the flavor. Some candy caramel flavors but not really a sweet beer. Greay balance of flavors without being bland.

Draft at Prado. Poured a dark clearish red, with a white head, and some lacing. Aroma is malty and a little roasty. Taste is is similarly dominated by malt, with some bready and roasted notes. A slightly bitter finish gives the beer a little hop to balance. Mouth is pretty well carbonated and medium bodied. Overall, a decent ale.

Pours a deep, barely translucent reddish sable with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled light tan head. Aroma is strong, spicy and surprisingly hoppy. Flavor is quite hoppy with strong tones of cloves and cinnamon and a hint of honey sweetness. Texture is sassy, fizzy and lively.
