motelpogo (4111), Plzen, Czech Republic Feb 26, 2007 on tap at the brewpub. deep mahogany brown with a lasting white, bubbly head. pronounced aroma of lapsang souchong. plenty of rauchbier character but not as in-your-face as many bamberg examples. some smoked salmon flavour, light caramel sweetness, salty dry finish. a very tasty brew
KyotoLefty (64), Kyoto, Japan Aug 27, 2008 An tap at the brewpub, several times in 2006. Rich smoked malt, slightly less smoky than in Bamberg, but very drinkable. great balance, very drinkable. Great with the sauer braten or the bratwurst.
dunkpigen (274), Kolding, Denmark Jul 29, 2008 Tap @ the brewpub, Vienna. Pours hazy dark brown with a creamy beaige head with laces. Aroma is smoked and slighly roasted. It is soft and creamy and the smoke is strong in the beginning and then you can taste the roasted malt that stays in the aftertaste also - I actually like this - and I am not a Rauchbier girl :o) Theis (2039), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 16, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Clear nut/colabrown - offwhite head. High smokey aroma. Smoke, nice malty body, wood, creamy body. A very nice rauchbier. thewolf (3608), Kolding, Denmark Jul 13, 2008 Tap @ the brewpub, Vienna.
Pours deep brown with a nice, medium, creamy, light-bwige head. Aroma has a little earthiness, quite a lot of smoke and lightly roasted. Fine, light mouthfeel. Flavour is softly smoky - very well-balanced. Quite malty sweet, some sugary notes. Good aftertaste, with pleasant smoke and roasted caramel. A positive surprise.
