rickgordon (3073), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 6, 2007 [On draught at the brewpub]
Copper colour with a light red-ish tint. Creamy Czech Style foam that seems to last forever. Light, very pleasant and balanced birch smokiness in aroma. Pretty light mouthfeel, smooth, and a wonderful smokiness that does not feel overwhelming. Caramel is in the background and shows off well. Oily mouthfeel. The dry, puckering mouthfeel is a bit of drawback, like with most 7-Stern beers.
swoopjones (1176), Buffalo, New York, USA Oct 1, 2008 on tap @ 7 Stern Brau, Vienna. Deep red pour with dark brown undertones. Aroma is not as smoky as one would think. Taste is definately smokey. Smoke doesnt dominate but adds a nice deminsion. Flavor of smoked meats up front blanced with sweeter malts in the rear. Nice beer TEJA (143), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 5, 2008 Big lasting foam. After some time a dark red-brown ale is present. Nice smoke aroma that resembles smoked ham. The smoke is clearly present in the taste toghether with some sweet maltiness. A small amount of acidity also present. The hops is supresed but bitterness is present after all the smoke taste dissapears. KyotoLefty (196), Kyoto, Japan Aug 27, 2008 An tap at the brewpub, several times in 2006. Rich smoked malt, slightly less smoky than in Bamberg, but very drinkable. great balance, very drinkable. Great with the sauer braten or the bratwurst.
dunkpigen (283), Kolding, Denmark Jul 29, 2008 Tap @ the brewpub, Vienna. Pours hazy dark brown with a creamy beaige head with laces. Aroma is smoked and slighly roasted. It is soft and creamy and the smoke is strong in the beginning and then you can taste the roasted malt that stays in the aftertaste also - I actually like this - and I am not a Rauchbier girl :o) Theis (2212), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 16, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Clear nut/colabrown - offwhite head. High smokey aroma. Smoke, nice malty body, wood, creamy body. A very nice rauchbier.
