JW77 pulled out this gem for my going away party...nice! Brown pour. Aroma is full of chocolate, wine notes, wood, vanilla, toffee and fruit. Flavor is sweet and wine like. A really interesting wood/fruit/vanilla flavor. I really enjoyed this.

Cask Stillage from the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 26/09/2009 Big fruit and hop aromas. Dark coloured with a vanilla and oak flavour. Smooth on the palate. A little dryness and bitterness in a crisp warming malt finish.

2009 Vintage enjoyed as part of a barrel aged sampler at the brewpub. ~ 5 oz pour in a taster glass (I’ll steal it too!). Sweet, expectedly winey aroma, lightly roasty and chocolatey, darkly malty and grainy, some faint alcohol, the wine really providing more of an accent on the nose overall. Dark red-brown color, nearly black, with a fine, slight head. Flavor is roasty, lightly smoky, sweet and winey, with suggestions of chocolate, cabernet, oak, vanilla and dark fruits. Smooth and thin on the palate, warming and somewhat sticky, with a full body. Better than the standard Wheat Wine, the barrel aging not overpowering, just accenting.

2009 Vintage enjoyed as part of a barrel aged sampler at the brewpub. ~ 5 oz pour in a taster glass (just copy and pasted that part). Black colored with a tan head. What I really liked was the strong Cab notes. In the aroma the leftover sugars and Cab notes come off as candied grape juice. that is mixed with some alcohol. But the unique grape candy aspect is awesome. Flavor is the same but finishes much drier than I ever expected. Wood and leafiness of the barrel really come out in the dry finish. But a big, bad, grape brew.

2009 Vintage enjoyed as part of a barrel aged sampler at the brewpub. ~ 5 oz pour in a taster glass. Pour is dark brown, some ruby highlights a little murky, with a smallish tan head. Aroma is big Cabernet wine, oak, vanilla - then booze and wheat. Taste is the wine up front, nice and soft, featuring the oak tannins quite prominently, then the elements I remember from the How’s Your Mama wheat wine, notably the prune dried fruit and brown sugar. Barrel and age have helped this beer along a bunch. Palate is low carbonation, smooth, and really masks the 11% nicely.
