Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 3. Black pour with a large fluffy lasting tan head. Dry and not overly sweet aroma of coffee and dark chocolate, maybe a hint of dried herbs for bittering. The taste followed - more chocolate, less coffee, more hoppiness than the aroma, but rather indistinct - just "bitter." Thinnish mouthfeel, slick, not very carbonated, and it finished slightly burnt - meh-ish.

Draft sample at Bière et Saveur 09.09.04 : Solid black color rocky brown dark head with excellent lacing. The body is full creamy but hides and metallic finish. I smell coffee, roast. Overall this one well balanced.

(Rating #2615)

Draught at ’Mondial de la Biere 2009’, Montréal, QC. Pours black with a large frothy light brown head and nice lacing -- looks gorgeous! Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla and chocolate. Dry flavour of roasted malt, chocolate and some green hops. Medium bodied. A very good Stout.

In short: A soft roasted and chocolaty session stout. Very simple but very drinkable
How: Tap at Brouhaha, Montreal
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose roasted with hints of chocolate. Taste is roasted and consequently a bit dry. Chocolate and milky notes give a milk chocolate flavour. A little floury feeling. An soft oatmeal sensation even though this is not a sweet stout. No fruity flavours to speak of. More black chocolate as it warms up. A light floral and citric hops presence make it refreshing. Looking at the individual elements this seems like a very good stout. However the whole thing is less than the sum of its parts. The body is thin for the style, the beer is not tasty, really not complex. There’s nothing wrong with this beer, if anything I cannot imagine someone not liking it. Nor can I imagine a hard-core beer-geek falling in love with it. Or a hot woman with varied interest falling in love with the said hard-core beer-geek.

A deep dark stout with a thick moka head. A pleasant herbal chocolate malt aroma, coffee notes, classic. In mouth, a classy bitter chocolate with nutty roasted coffee beans grind. A very pleasant offering. Medium bodied. Mondiale 2009, June 5 2009.
