Lasting sweet and caramel malty finish. Nice one. martin21 (155), Quebec city, Quebec, Canada

Bonne mais pas exceptionnelle, over-rater et ben trop chere.
Good scotch ale, brown color with reddish-like highlights, taste of caramel and salt. Good but definetely not exceptionnal, totally over-rated and way to priced. minch25 (366), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Pours reddish brown, medium khaki head.
Aroma - peanut butter, malt, rubber, perhaps caramel, and the most curious whiff of strawberry jam finds its way in as well. Well carbonated, full body. Wow, this unexpected strawberry jam impression comes through very strong in the flavor amid the more traditional caramelly malt flavors. I didn’t pick this out the first time trying this beer, but this is incredibly unique, and quite a delight. Builds on a base of earthy underbrushy bitterness, almost hoppy. Aftertaste of pumpernickel or rye or some such. This bottle is performing significantly better than the previous one. Overall, well made, enjoyable, gives me a new look on the style. I personally enjoy Founders Backwoods Bastard more, though that’s quite a different take.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Updated: Feb 25, 2009Simply amazing and outstanding. 6.29 for 341 ml is quite expensive for a Québec-made beer bought in Montreal... When it is as good as this, who could care about the price... Exquisite aroma, not as dark as most scotch ales. Barely a trace of alchool in the taste with a lot of subtilities and complexity in the warmth of this divine brew. Sweetness, caramel-like and a discreet bitterness. Keep up with your excellent work, Biere des iles. I love you, Madelinots. Added: Guilty as charged, though; I over-rated that one. A quite too watery texture and, ’though pretty well balanced, nothing is oustanding in the taste. Flamojune (93), Ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada

A must for beer lovers !! Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2008 The notorious "new" batch. Cold clean red. Chocolate soda fountain, root beer candy, wet earth, alcohol aroma. Raspberries in vanilla. Sugary, damp, and distantly salty. Salted rye bread. Raw.
Coarse wooden chocolate flavor. Not rich and bold like an earthy, semisweet, mostly real cocoa chocolate, but dry and sugary like an extract syrup. The fruit character is bitter and tannic, like the skin of a plum or a dried date. Smooth, velvety almond sweetness in a rich and sharp spirit-like texture, with plenty of mapley woodiness. Still unpolished. No subtlety in the delivery.
Medium-full palate is softly carbonated and surprisingly not sticky. Tinny mineral bitterness precedes a lasting, dry rubbing of alcohol and caramelized almonds in the finish. Rather frustrating. Its redeeming qualities are ever present, but suffocated, and what might be most annoying is that there isn’t some obvious flaw lending the weight. It just never quite arrives. Dany was right. Thanks man!
