| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2008 Shared by kmweaver. Pours a clear but dark caramel copper color with a tan head. Viscous and oily legs cling to the glass and give off a sort of green hue. Nose is toffee liqueur and caramel malt, along with toasted bread and light notes of chocolate (chocolate liqueur). Tannic flavor, coarse and toast-heavy, medium level of alcohol noticed. Toffee and bread tend to dominate, along with quieter notes of maple and brown sugar and wood. Amaretto finish (semi-sweet) is nice. kmweaver (2484), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a bright, clear and viscous golden-amber color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Some nuttiness, dried red fruits, candy sugar, and even a touch of alcohol coming through in the aroma; slightly scattered, candied nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy caramel, dried red fruits, candy sugar, and some alcoholic edges showing through; reasonably tasty, but I’d love to taste this next to the original, better(?) versions of this beer. Still, tasty stuff. Medium finish: sticky red fruits, candy sugar, caramel / nougat, and just a touch of mineral bitterness. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Rich toffee and dark fruit in the nose with some toast and berries. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. I’m getting lots of fruit juice, especially grapes, figs and berries, there is also an abundance of caramel and cookie dough. Medium/full body is very soft with light and gentle carbonation. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA

Tried from bottle with Atlanta ratebeer crew at 5 Seasons North tasting. Red amber color. Some roasty aroma. Mild flavor. A hint of sour and dry. I was told this wasn’t the best of batches, other batches are better. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Smell: A peaty aroma with a slight nuttiness and notes of caramelized sugars, grain husks, and stewed fruits.
Taste: Grainy, dry malt taste with the sweetness of caramelized sugar and an underlying peat character. Hint of nuts. Juicy plum fruitiness. More grains. A pop of balancing hop bitterness. A continuing graininess overlooks the peaty, drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent, well-made scotch ale.
