sayravai (3037), Helsinki, Finland Mar 30, 2006 (Bottled) Clear golden color with a medium, foamy-bubbly and mildly lacy head. Sweetish-caramely aroma with hints of toffee and sugar. Sweet toffee-fruity flavor with low bitterness, slight acidness, and sugar, sugar and maybe some more sugar just to be sure. The flavor - although very sweet - is not quite as bad as it sounds, and is actually pretty close to some Belgian "abbey" tripels - without the yeastiness, though. Light to medium-bodied palate with a smooth, but somewhat foamy carbonation. It’s interesting to see the first(?) Estonian ale in action. Although it is sweet, filtered and somewhat reminiscent of Estonian strong lagers, it’s really not that bad overall. Maybe we’ll see some truly enjoyable ales from Estonia in the future. I have no idea what the "first of its kind produced in Latvia/Lithuania" in the web page is about...
FatPhil (2063), Espoo, Finland Nov 29, 2007 500ml bottle.
Note - quality is variable, I’ve had a both good and bad bottles. (As per Tranquility’s review below.)
Rich gold colour, thin head. Slightly sickly sweet hoppy aroma. A bit fizzy in the palate, but not harshly so. Slightly plasticy aromatic malt, and a good attempt at an English bitter’s hoppiness. Reasonable grainy body. Emasculated a bit by pasteurisation/filtering, this could hypothetically be pretty good draught, I’m sure. SaintMatty (423), Tallinn, Estonia Nov 5, 2007 Dark golden in colour with a fruity aroma. A slight metallic taste with not much aftertaste. Very little hop aroma, rather thin. Full marks to them for attempting this but I found it a real disappointment. gunnfryd (2718), Kristiansand, Norway Jul 15, 2007 Bottle. Golden colour with an off- white head. Aroma is fruit, malt, caramel. Flavour is fruit, malt, hay, caramel. Ordinary beer. yngwie (3394), Kristiansand, Norway Jul 11, 2007 Bottle. Yet another gift from Maria’s cellar. Thanks! Clear, golden with an off-white head leaving nice lacings. Caramel, malt and some hops in the aroma, but it is too anonymous. The flavor is a bit thin too, with malt, some grain, fruits and bitterness. Medium body, and a little too short finish with fruits and bitterness. A mediocre, quaffable beer. (070527) pivnizub (3770), Porúří, Germany May 16, 2007 Bottle: Golden coloured with a small foamy layer; fruity nose (apples) with a touch of bandaid and herbal hops; sweetish-bitter flavour, gentle MF; dryish-fruity-bitter finish. No earthquake, drinkable.........
