chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England May 24, 2007 Draught at Kobenhavnske Oldage 2007. A rather unusual brew that is difficult to categorise. Wouldn’t have picked it as a doppelbock myself but I’m not sure what style I would have it down as. Pale gold colour. Has a quite fresh, grassy aroma with touches of flowery hop. But the flavour is fat, slightly sticky malt and the mouthfeel is rather slick. The flowery notes evident in the don’t carry through as strongly as I would like. Not sickly sweet but there is a distinct sweetness there, without much in the way of hops or bitterness to balance it out. More like one of those European strong lagers than a German style doppelbock.
MiP (6026), Flensburg, Germany Jul 9, 2008 Draught at ÅBF08. Weak buttery aroma. Clear golden colour. Big creamy white head. The flavour has a good aroma hop and distinct, slightly rough bitterness. caesar (2573), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands May 27, 2008 Bottled, bought in Aarhus. Clear golden color, short head. Aroma of grassy hop, grain, pale malt. Slight bitter and grainy taste, quite watery. Not bad, but a doppelbock?? Grovlam (3198), Copenhagen, Denmark May 27, 2008 Bottle 75 cl brought from Skjold Burne in Århus. Small fizzy white head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Clear somewhat flat looking body with a golden color. Aroma of grain, floral, mild caramel, hint of spice, citrus, herbal and hint of what could appear as liquorish. Light to medium bodied with an average carbonation and mild dry texture. Light to moderated sweet and bitter flavor in a balanced mix. Light dry and grassy fresh bitter finish. Quit nice I thought. skortila (2433), Bunnik, Netherlands May 26, 2008 Bottled. Fruity and malty aroma with some grassy hops and a hint of butter. Clear, golden coloured with a thin, white lace. Taste is sweet, bit sticky. Has hoppiness and fruitiness. Some metal as well. Bragesnak (1338), Aarhus, Denmark May 12, 2008 From Kvickly, Aarhus, DK.
