Good triple ! Hazy blond golden color. Solid Triple; dry, spicy; strong bitterness, good malt structure, quite sweet after some oxydation, some cork.

A yellow beer with a thin off-white head. Both the aroma and the flavor are sweet with primary notes of malt and alcohol. A very simple beer.

As i mentioned in my places review of Friar Tuck’s in Peoria, Il, this place has a number of dated brews, but I usually don’t worry about the dates on belgian brews, as they are more like guideline (a pirate’s code type thing). Just saw the date of 09/06/00. Nearly cloudy golden liquid. Tall heavy cream colored head. Nice lace line the glass. Stewed brandy raisins overpower the nose. A hint of herbs including wintergreen in the background. Sweet heavy malt flavors, with sugary caramel along with some mild spice. Allspice really seems to cover the spice, but a touch of saffron seems to be in there as well. A very dry malt finish and linger that after the sweet start are welcome. While a fresher bottle may have some different qualities, this was still quite interesting and may have dried out a touch with the age.

Bottle, at London gathering, November 2005. Bought from OnlyFineBeer. Gold colour. A poor quality tripel in my view. Way too sweet, so the fruit tends towards a jammy feel and there’s not enough hop presence to provide balance.

Bottle. Really sweet triple, with a lactic acidity, and sticky sweetness. Yeasty and spicy characters you associate with triples. This was too sweet/sticky though.

Bottle at London Gathering, Nov 05. Lots of vanilla, toffee and rich unexpected aromas. Sweet malt leading to cloying unbalanced body.
