750 ml. bottle. Dishearteningly bubbly and clear, if slightly hazy, golden color with a rapidly dissolving head. Looks like some kind of Canadian ale. Bland biscuity and grassy aroma with only the faintest notes of citrus, spice and bubblegum. Flavor upfront was disturbingly sour, beyond any intended citrus note or otherwise. Underneath, some off-sweet light bready malt flavor with restrained spice coming through at the end. Light and even carbonation. Very disappointing. No complexity at all, and any crafty flavor subtleties that may otherwise be intended are ruined by that annoying sour overtone.

75cL bottle (BB May/08). Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), moderately yeasty (basement, cobwebs), with light notes of gum, pepper, and dried pineapple. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Just as the triple brune is very similar to the brune, this one is quite similar to the blonde. Just a little more sweetness to start (but more bitterness to finish) and slightly more apparent alcohol. Nice.

Bottle. Pours sparkling dark yellow with a large, rocky, white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (hay, straw, meal), average hops (herbs, grass), average yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of banana, apple, pear and dust. Full bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity and bitterness.

I feel that this beer doesn’t give the full potential to what this style can offer. mild malts flavor with some fruit and herbs. no hops anytime at all.

The aroma is floral, yeasty, citrusy, and peppery, malty. The appearance is golden with some haze and a nice foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is smooth but not thick. I like this one.

750ml Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a large long lasting white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is yeast, citrus, pilsner malt, pepper, and spicy hops. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel that finishes dry with lively carbonation, well balanced bitterness, and light tart finish. Very underrated and very tasty.

(750ml Heylissem Triple bottle, best by 30/05/08) Large off-white head that mostly diminishes, atop cloudy apple juice body. Aroma is moderately sweet, banana, some clove, light bubblegum. Taste is moderately sweet, candied orange, some alcohol, clove, light lemon. Soft and effervescent medium-full body.
