Commercial Description:
Blanche des Honnelles (1991) was originally very localised, and has since expanded beyond the boundries of the greater and lesser Honnelle rivers, from which it takes it's name. The Blanche des Honnelles leaves the beaten path somewhat. It has an amber colour which is after all the traditional appearance of the Blanches. It is also stronger (6%) than the Blanches that we know. Its taste is surprising and is not comparable to the brews with the same name that are now on the market. If the bouquet is subdued its first flavour is a stark dry sharpness against a pepper background. There is no acidity in this Blanche that is made with three cereals (barley, wheat, oats). It has a stimulating taste, leaving a subdued but refreshing final impression. Lots of character and curious.

A transparent golden/orange color with a light fine carbonation (and a few bits and pieces rolling around). The white head diminishes rather quickly, but leaves a fine layer and a light bubbly, sticky lace. Aroma is tart and spicy (coriander), with malty notes. Palate is medium bodied, effervescent and pleasingly tart. The flavor is a well-balanced combination of sweetness, a citrus tartness and a light hop finish. This brewski/amalgamation is not glaringly complex or provocative, yet its characteristics exemplify a harmony of subtle flavors I have not noticed in any other beer of this style.

Nice malt aroma, with Belgian yeast, honey, light fruity hops, apples. Medium orange-amber hazy with large chunks floating in it. Fluffy white lacing head. Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. Starts with classic Belgian ale taste, lightly sweet and acidic, and with a subdued bitterness. Yeast taste, chalky and light bitterness come in at finish. Light alcohol profile. After is clean with some yeasty bitterness.

bottle. Hazy blond, fluffy white head. yeasty, bubble-gum aroma. Very thick/heavy yeasty flavour. A great companion for the patio on a nice summer afternoon. Works well as a thirst quencher, but not as flavourful as say, a Blanche de Chambly.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a nice golden colour with a white frothy head. Aroma is sweet honey, citrus and coriander. Taste is citrus, honey with some hops. Nice on the palate, smooth with a very slight bitter finish. Excellent.

Abbey des Rocs makes good beers! Citrus and spicy corinader in the aroma. Normally this would go in the flavor too. But this one has more malt than a normal belgian white. Nice.

Bottle: Poured a hazy light copper beer with a huge foamy head with great retention. Incredible amount of yeast is comprised in this drink. Aroma is great with hint of sweet fruit (apricot? Orange?). Taste is also quite good with a refreshing sweet taste reminiscent of summer fruit (again apricot?) and a good mix between the malt and the yeast. Overall, a more complex wit then what I’m used to drink and, in my opinion, a underrated beer in this category.

Bottle from The Wine Company, Slough. Pours cloudy orange, white head. Spicy/peppery wit, lots of character. Better than the score might suggest.

Yumm! Golden colour, a beautiful white head and... a HUGE amount of yeast particles in the glass! Fruit (apricot), yeast and phenols in the aroma. Sweet and complex with hops (citrus) and a firm palate. "Something" bitter in the finish. A great beer that could have been even better without that dusty note in the taste (too much yeast?) that I didn’t fully appreciate.
