Either I poured way too aggressively or it’s just how this beer is, but I got a ton of solid matter in my glass. Aroma is rife with dark fruits and caramel. Very enticing. The taste is totally there to back it up. More dark fruits and just the right amount of sweetness in there. Decently thick on the palate and finishes plenty malty. So glad I decided to pick this up upstate, as I couldn’t seem to find this in the NYC area. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England

Jam packed with floaty bits. Lighter brown almost nearing amber-ish with an off white head. Great aroma and taste of raisins and dark fruits, right amount of sweetness for me. Not too heavy, lovely. plovmand (1736), Helsinge, Denmark

Great aroma of dark fruits like raisins and prunes with spicy yeasty notes. I sense some dark berries too. Flavour is a very pleasant with strong fruity notes and spices from the yeast. Great creamy mouthfeel. wkalle (116), Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2008 33 cl bottle. Loud pop when opened. Large light brown head which took some time to settle,(not much of lacing though). Color is somewhere in the deep brown region with lots of bubbles (could be some red in there...). Aroma is pleasant with a mixture of yeast, bread, caramell and a faint scent of green apples. The body is full and rather creamy and the high carbonation can be well sensed. The finish is nice and warming from the high alcoholic content, which otherwise isn’t so obvious. The flavor is rather sweet, though well suported by a nice bitterness. Aftertaste is pleasant and lasts long but after some tasting the aftertaste becomes a bit sour.
Overall this is a very pleasant beer, especially if one is focused on analysing it, but I find it somewhat hard too like it all the way through which brings down my rating for the overall impression. Panzerfaust (401), Santiago, Chile

Pours a dark mahogany/brown color with crimson hues. Regular head with good retention, it leaves a nice ring.
Aroma is complex, malty/yeasty/spicy with a great diversity of smells. Wood, caramel, toffee and macchiato coffee are the first things that come to mind. Black olives, apples, clove and christmas cake are less obvious but clearly present when you dig deeper. Some fruit tartness rounds up the aroma of this brew.
The flavor is pretty round too, bittersweet, toasted. I taste coffee grains and loads of caramel, nougat and whiskey creams. The tartness of blueberries and fruit gums. Complex and full of subtleties, but not overly intense as expected. Surprising.
Palate shows a medium body. I could do with a little more. Alcoholic warming sensation. Fair carbonation and the finish and aftertaste are some of the best I’ve ever tasted, and the latter lasts for hours. Great beer. cluny6 (115), Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England

Pours a nice cloudy, full of sediment brownish amber. Good head that lingers. Sweet, dark fruit, candied orange smell. Slightly carbonated feel, with notes of candied berries. Very sweet. Very complex in the flavor, it overwhelms your senses with pleasure. Might be a bit too sweet for some. I give it an A+ Borresteijn (1441), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2008 33cl Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark brown appearance, disappearing head. Smell of dark fruits, raisins, chocolate, malts, alcohol. Flavour is chocolate, brown sugar/caramel, raisins, a bit sourish. Rather sweet beer, but because it’s so soft it’s very enjoyable. Very rich in taste and smell, a very nice beer.
