Commercial Description:
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Tasted 22/03/2008. 750ml bottle courtesy of bmackenzie, shared with Steve and Amanda. Pours a chestnut brown with an airy off-white head. Nice rich malt fruit and caramel on the nose. A little yeast spice. More of the same in the mouth, with the caramel malt hiding the alcohol well. A little melanoidin - toasted fruit loaf. Pretty clean. sweetish finish. Very nicely conditioned. Understated. Moreish. Delcious. Steve digs it.

Dark red with a huge and dense head. The aroma is simply amazing - sweet like grapes, plumes and raisins. There is a bubbling and sizzling carbonation almost like a brut, and the flavour has some reminscence of champagne also with pear, peach and mango making it a grand Belgian!

750ml bottle-After I took off the crown it just started over fllowing and more over flowing. Poured a cloudy brownish amber with a small ring for a head. Aroma of belgian yeast, sweetness, malt, and brown sugar. Taste of this medium bodied brew is of yeast, malt , caramel, slight alcohol, and finishes sweet. A great balanced brew.

Bottle, courtesy Tony at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours a brownish red color, with yellowish highlights. Wet spots of lacing remain on the glass. Aromas of raising, plum, caramel, heavy, grainy bran. Caramel, raisin, banana, plum, cotton candy are in the flavor. Pretty good. Mellowed body. Nice bitter finish. Good beer.

A great tasting belgium ale! It pours nice with a dark, amber color and a light head. Nice aroma: fruitiness, slight maltiness. Tastes a little sweet at first, but balances out in aftertaste. Will drink many more!
