Commercial Description:
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Great aroma. Palate is rather dry. I am slightly surprised with the lack of sugar, because there is some definite sweetness going on.

750ml bottle via trade with JayG. So many thanks, thought this beer would elude me forever, yet 649 people before me were not so eluded. Pours gushing, not terrible, but a little over excited from a big bruiser of a 750. Pours cloudy pale orange with a thin half finger than head. The nose is quite light, and slightly sweet. The taste is intriguing and complex and not so strong. Lots of different fruit flavors not rainbow stripe gum, but complex. Very light, lets see how it progresses...

Bottle @ Brugse Beertje, Brugge. Pours hazy reddish/brown with a beautiful, everlasting tan head. Dry, malty and caramellish aroma. Also scents of dried dark fruits, alcohol and yeast. Taste is moderately sweet and very complex. A strong malt base with layers of fruit flavors; plums, grapes, raisins and tropical. Also some fruity acidiy hand in hand with candy-sugar... Mild and gentle hopbitterness. Medium to full body. Long flavorfull finish. A wonderful beer.

pours amber with chunks of yeast floating throughout. aroma is tart with yeast and spice notes. there is also sweet malt notes in the form dark fruit vapors. taste is more subtle than the aroma. it is tangy and sweet with the usual fruit and yeast notes but is unusually well formed. finish is tart and dry. well carbonated and very drinkable.

RB rating 400. 33 cL bottle. Pours orange brown with a good off-white head. Aroma of malts, yeast, slight citric and fruity. Flavour is sweet and spicy. Soft malt flavour mixes with the alcohol giving a strong and fullbodied flavour and finish.

Bottle but tasted it also on draft. One of my favorite beers. Very complex beer. Although 9% alcohol, the taste is very balanced a little sweet and enough bitter. A perfect beer
