Commercial Description:
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

bottle donated from etowneraser--it pours a cloudy, what looks like sentement filed golden amber color. It smells wonderful, lots of sweet citrus honey, and malt. tastes, malty very pleasant mouthfeel. but there is a metally taste to it that I’m not to fond of. very sweet and fruity. plums or something and a bit tart at the end.

Bottle - 330ml. Cloudy terra-cotta body with yeasty chunks and a huge beige foamy head. Fantastic malty/hoppy aroma with fruity and vineous hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Taste is sharp and perfectly balanced. It carries plummy and oaky notes, and ends with a long bitter/sour finish. Excellent choice fot my 900th rating!

Very spicy, tremendously complex aroma. The flavor is also quite spicy with a nice malty sweetness. Super.

Labelled Brasserie des Rocs. Enjoyed Xmas day with my father-in-law. Poured with an occasional glop of something slimey coming out. Hmmm. I did drive it 90 miles but handled it carefully.... Mild malty sweet aroma. Cloudy brown color with an orangey hue. Peering closer there is a veritable soup of fluffy particulate matter suspended within. Head dissipitates quickly. Flavor is perfectly balanced, tangy, wonderful. Mouthfeel is tingly, sweet on the front and mildy bitter at the end. The occasional gelatanous glop (not quite ropiness) reminds me of a chinese egg drop soup. I think I need to sample another bottle...

murky brown body with small brown head (quite a bit of sediment present)..aroma is strong in dark fruits, figs, caramel, sugar, toffee, nuts and marshmallow...flavor is of chewy malts, heavy in figs and raison, brown sugar, bread and biscuit with a touch of citrus hops in the finish..well done

2002 bottle from Kulminator. Slightly murky dark amber with a small almost yellow head, a small chunk of yeast swam freely around the glass. Sweet fruity aroma, with some light dusty yeast and caramel, had some interesting vanilla musk too. The body was full, sweet and warming, with slight overcarbonation. Flavours of spice, yeast, toffee and whisky, fairly complex and enjoyable, not as sweet as the aroma would suggest. The finish was warming and fruity.
