Commercial Description:
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Reddish brown pour. Aroma of strong malt and yeast, a bit of fruit. Carmel, toffee, Flavor is fruity and earthy, a bit dirty. Some leather and chocolate. Finish is chalky and long. Big, rich palate. Nice beer.

Dark orange in color with a quickly vanishing head. The aroma is strong, malty and sweet. The taste is overwhelming - I thought I had opened a Brune, but this is more like a barley wine! The taste is dominated by (too much) sweetness, malt and some citrus notes. The palate is rich. Overall an interesting beer with a balance I do not fancy.

This copper ale poured with a decent beige head and a candi sugar aroma. The flavor is rich roasted malt with a chalky dry finish and some carbonation. It’s neither sweet nor sour and is actually a little bitter. Not what I expected, yet is is a very good brew.

A brown beer with a nice head.Aroma is fruity, leathery, & slightly spicy. Taste is fruit(peach), dash of chocolate that leaves a nice lacing. The 9% ABV is amazingly well hidden, in fact I didn’t taste alcohol. The smoothest Belgian I have had.

Bottle 33cl. Pours a murky brown colour with normal size head and good carbonation. Aroma is very attractive and smells like caramel, fruits and raisins. Taste is also caramel and very sweet. Aftertaste hardly has any alcohol, but is great and warm going down.

Brown with a lively beige foam. Sweet and complex with notes of caramell, sugar, estery fruits and sweet sweet raisins. Rather vinous, rather complex but a tad too sweet for me most of the time.

Big bottle from Pelgrims, Aarschot. Aroma is of caramel and wood. Taste is also caramelly with a sweet undertone, more like grapes I would say. Very very very fine beer.
