mgumby10 (1651), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Apr 30, 2007 Pours a hazy, bubbly, chunky, burnt orange with a thick, well retained light tan head. Wonderful aromas of plum, apple, other citrus, some malts, and a touch of some caramel. Taste is quite full flavored. Pretty sweet, a lot of caramel and plum in the taste. Really smooth, and quite easy drinking, even though it is chunky as hell, but thats to be expected as all Des Rocs beers Ive had have been like this. Great mouthfeel, kind of danced on the tastebuds. Great brew from a great abbey. Thumbs up.

SuzyGreenberg (1067), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 31, 2008 750 ml - wow, this is one of those nice rarity in today’s market for sure; a highly rated beer from belgium for only $7 - and a 750 no less!!! pours light brown with thin off-white head; lots of yeast floaties; grand cru-ish in aromas; sweet candy and raw spice aromas; texture feels thin, but has a heaviness to it; very sweet and quite unique; fruity flavors and textures improve greatly with temperature; very strong and yummy malrubius (485), USA Oct 25, 2008 11.2 ounce bottle in Chimay glass. Not sure what went wrong here, but I opened it up and it foamed over, so I quickly poured it into a glass and it fizzed louder than a Coke on Pop Rocks. The head entirely fizzed off to nothing leaving no head or lace and only a little interior carbonation. So...brown with no head or lace. Rich smokey woodsy dark cherry brown sugar aroma. Delicious woodsy smokey brown sugar caramel dark cherry flavor with mild tobacco bitterness. Medium body. Incredible flavor. I gotta try to get a better-handled bottle of this and rerate to add points for head and palate and overall. But for now, I rate ’em as I drink ’em. keepersj12 (449), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Oct 21, 2008 This is just too good. Everything about it is fantastic. This is one beer where the description is right on. Don’t miss this one. MuttyD (93), Cambridge, USA Oct 18, 2008 Brown pour with thick cream colored head. Aroma of yeast, fruit, candied sugar. Medium body, fizzy on the palate, huge dark fruit/candied sugar flavor. Finish is slightly syrupy.
