Finally a beer for Abbaye des Rocs that lives up to its hype. Pours a deep dark brown reddish color with a medium to large sized brown cream colored head. Nose is sweet and mostly of dark fruit and belgian candi sugar. Taste is sweet, fruity, yeasty, acidic, green, and has a great lasting warming finish. A really great belgian ale.

Dark amber pour with plenty of sediment and off-white head. Huge beautiful aroma: lemon, grapefruit, lime, raisins, clove, plum, apple, brown sugar, strawberry, candied sugar, molasses, and a bit of alcohol. Flavor contains sweet dried fruit, strawberry, belgian yeast, candied sugar, lots of cola notes, and not much bitterness. Still, the flavor is dreamlike. Palate is smooth and creamy, slightly sticky, with a dry finish. I’m halfway through the bottle, and I can already say that this ranks as one of the top Belgian Strongs I’ve had the pleasure of drinking.

Sept. 2006 - Beautiful dark brown pour with a centimeter thick head which lasted and laced the glass. Aroma was sweet candy and dark fruits...very strong. The mouthfeel on this was superb...creamy and thick. The flavor was maybe a tad overly sweet from candied sugar, plums. Very warming beer, just maybe a tad overly sweet without any real hoppy bitterness to balance.

Very disappointed with this one... Aroma is good with hints of fruit, caramel, and it is very sweet. Also, it is a beautiful beer... a dark ruby/brown color. It may look delicious, but the flavor was of way over sweet caramel, fruit, malt, iron, and a little alcohol. I couldn’t finish it. 1 pt. 9.4 oz. bottle.

Mahogany color with a big frothy head. Cotton candy caramel sweet earthy nose with some oxidation. Medium thick body with a foamy, but soft mouthfeel. Good taste is mildly sweet with burnt caramel and an earthy molasses flavor. . Alcohol is well cloaked. Best by 2007 on label. 62206

Sampled at joebrew’s weekly beer tasting seminars at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St. Paul, MN. Pours a semi-clear dark brown brew with a thick off-white head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some yeast, earthy spice a touch of chocolate and coriander. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of semi-tart caramel malt, yeast, and dark pitted fruits. Finish is slightly metallic from the high alcohol with aftertaste flavors of tart caramel malt and yeast.

(bottle) Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma has some slght spice, a lot of yeast, chocolate, and sweet peach too. The taste is very sweet with peach, chocolate, caramel, and a nice dry yeasty finish. Quite different than most tripels I’ve tasted, but still good nonetheless.

Fruity sweet aroma, cloudy amber pour.Slight caramel/syrup, "pit fruit" taste (peach/apricot). Nice level of malt and yeastiness, slightly bitter finish balances things out. Maybe a bit too much sediment (or I poured in too much of it).
