| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2008 Poured into a Chimay goblet. Burgundy body and a creamy tan head. Classic Belgian lacing. Dozens of yeast chunks are floating around, as is expected from Brasserie Des Rocs.
Aroma is very Belgian with lots of yeast and dark fruity esters.
Taste is of dark fruits, a certain spiciness, doughy yeast, toffee, apple. Some booziness that mellows out with time.
Great carbonation, prickly and fine. Rich but easy to drink. Drinkability takes a bit of a hit from all the big yeast floaties. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA

Dark coppery brown pour with with a light mocha colored head. Dark fruit on the nose along with some sweetness (maple or molasses). Toffee and maple as well as dates and other sweet dark fruits in taste. Rotorhead87 (117), Temple, Texas, USA

Instead of the light, citrusy flavors like most Tripels, this one is much darker with more malts and darker fruits flavors. Immensely complex, and amazingly flavorful.
Amazing! This beer is a must-drink for fans of any dark beer. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 24, 2008 Mmmmm delicious!!!! This beer has been one of my all time favorites for quite some time. Instead of the overpowering corriander and orange peel most tripel or beers of this style exude, this boy exudes chocolate, brown sugar, anise.....lots of anise and a hint of smokiness. Great beer. Aroma is quite sweet, chocolate, liquorice and malt. Taste is chocolate, grape, some malt with a slight bitterness on the finish. Medium-thick mouthfeel. Pretty good stuff. mabel (2626), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Mild tomato and beef aroma with a bit of fruity Belgian yeast, almost like Classico pasta sauce. Murky, dark brown amber body with a big medium-lasting foamy yellow head. Flavour has a little smoky fruit and mild tobacco leaf. Medium-full body is smooth. Very interesting, alcohol is hidden. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA

Taste was rich, full of perfumy sweetness, ripe fruit, brown sugar. Almost caught some berry essence at times. Had this and the Brune at the same time. I was shocked by how similar the taste was. Both good, but almost interchangeable.
