| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2007 Belgian Style Dark Ale. .33L poured in a Chimay glass. Murky, muddy, medium brown color, tan creamy head. Aroma of dark rich malt. Strong aromas of figs and dried fruit. Distant aromas of baked beans cooked with brown sugar, cilantro, cumin, and bacon grease... Odd, although it tastes nothing like that. Flavor is sweet and malty. Flavors are a bit roasty in the finish. Heavy bodied and a slow sipper. Overall: A super tasty, heavy hitter. Ughsmash (4076), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 3, 2007 11.2 oz bottle, BB end of 2008. This was was really excited about leaving the bottle.. when I got a glass under it, it poured beautifully with a deep plummy-caramel complexion and a short, creamy cap of medium tan head. The aroma picked up caramel, darker fruits, and toffee for a great dark, sweet base.. mild nutmeg, dried figs, and just the faintest banana accent. The flavor was quite sweet overall with drawn caramel, buttery toffee, and darker fruits accented by figs and herbal bitterness.. tart fruit skins hit right at the back. Creamy and rich on the palate with high carbonation.. so thick, though, that it moved slowly, and the carbonation made the flavor pop on every square inch of the mouth.. a little sour on the back end, which somehow made this a touch refreshing.. damn near a 5 on the palate. Just an excellent beer! FoolishMortal (966), San Diego, California, USA

Vinous aromatics with spicy, bready accents. Dark alefruit, figs and dates, up front. Apple, grape flavors with a turning fruit sweetness. Slight metallic character with a bready caramel and phenolic gestalt. Lingering spiced sweetness in the finish, some toffee. Mouthfeel is rich and heavy. pumpmaster (483), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA

Very sweet Belgian Strong Ale, malty, full bodied, with sweet caramel, not much bitter, and the alcohol is well hidden. Very good, but I expected more complexity and character.
