Nose is rich with the aroma of black cherries, walnuts, sweet malt, hints of alcohol, and fresh toasted bread, what a treat to just smell this beer. Start is sweet with malt and cherries, touch of spices, and the top medium to full. Finish has a stern acidity, the hops delectable, the cherries and malt last to the dry ending, the alcohol warms the innards, and all I can say is “Woo Hoo”! ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 8, 2007 This beer pours a deep amber/brown with a medium tan head. The nose has sweet coke, plums sugars and when you take a sip, WOW! All teh flavors meld together make this a lightly carbonated and semi sweet beer! This beer has that classic belgianale/trappistale flavor! and boy does it do a good job of mixing the flavors together. Wondefully complex and good, It hides the 10% abv very well! I think I’ll have some more later! Cheers! travita (1941), Frisco, Texas, USA

Brown in color with a mediocre head, very cloudy. Taste is malty sweet and has fruity flavor and has some alcohol taste. Seems like a lot going on but it did not really work for me.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2007 Print is a little smudged, but I think it says best before 2010. After wrestling to pour the geyser I am left with a beautiful ruby brown ale with a small but fluffy light tan head. Strong and semi-sweet aroma of apricot, flat cola, and an earthy/musty undertone. Kind of weird, but interesting and pleasant. Flavor is almost syrupy sweet, and kind of what I expected from the aroma, but not necessarily what I really wanted to get. The fruity notes are pleasant although a bit too sweet for my taste, but I also taste a good bit of that flat cola I got in the aroma. It’s not all that bad, but doesn’t balance out the sweet fruity flavors that are so prevalent. There is a really nice undertone of cinnamon though. The palate is medium/full, semi-sweet, with a long finish, and some slightly sharp carbonation. I am missing the huge yeasty chunks though (although I admit I found the huge gobs of yeast a bit much the last time I had a des Rocs)
