| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Pours a deep brick-red brown, topped by an inch of bubbly yet creamy tan foam. Fantastic webby lacing. Bready and yeasty malt aroma, mixed around with molasses and brown sugar.
Bold malt profile - full of wheat bread, oily bittersweet chocolate, fig, tart cherry, sorghum, and rum. Nicely balanced in the finish with bizarre bitter flavors like apple seed, oak, tobacco, and bitter chocolate liqueur (if there is such a thing), more so than hops. But the finish isn’t entirely bitter, with vanilla and kahlua flavors tossed in for fun. And, oh what fun!
Full body, quite smooth - actually exceptionally smooth for this big of a beer. muenster (341), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Bottle. Pours tawny brown with insane floaties. Tight bubbly beige head with floaties throughout. Aroma is dark fruit, sweet caramel malt, and yeast. Flavor is yeast, dark fruit, alcohol, and wood. My expectations were set far too high. Hope their Grand Cru is better. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Adrian910ss: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale after some gushing, with a big foamy head with great retention. Aroma of candi sugar, strong Belgian malt and slightly funky yeast. Taste of sweet Belgian malt with nice candi sugar and funky yeast prove a balance and complex beer. Body is above average with low filtration and great carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. Another great beer from this fine Belgian brewery. Sombeast (151), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 4, 2007 11.2 oz bottle, BB 2008, served in a Chimay goblet. Pours a not quite clear reddish brown with a respectable off-white head, slow to dissipitate and constantly replenishing. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, raisins, cherry & spicy alcohol notes. The mouthfeel strikes you well before any flavor - super rich almost foamy creaminess. There is a light tingle in the tip of the tongue, light malty sweetness, followed by a malty, more dry finish with little residual bitterness. Alcohol was nearly undetectable until I exhaled into the breathalyzer (just kidding). I would love to share the rest of the 4-pack with some ’beer transition’ or RB friends. Or maybe not.... ;) I like the comment made earlier about a "malt-head’s dream". Bailz316 (221), Mendham, New Jersey, USA
