A dark brown beer with a lot of big chunks of sediment & little head. Aroma was fruity, & chocolate. The taste was leather, sour fruit, chocolate, & a full bodied mouthfeel. I have had 2 other Des Rocs(Brune, Grand Cru) & this is not as smooth as those.

Colore marrone velato. Aroma dolce di malto, corposo, con caramello, non molto amara, e l’alcol è ben nascosto. Una birra eccezionale sotto tutti i punti di vista!

2007 750 bottle. Cork is wet and smells of sweet vinegar. Pours a clear but dark root beer brown with some expected floaties and a tall thick foamy beige head. If it weren’t for the floaties it would be a 5. Aroma of super sweet oxidized candi sugars with lighter nuances of age and slight fruit. Flavor is quite rich, dark candi sugars with surprising depth, figs, dates, some red fruit, hard-candy sweetness, oxidized nicely, ha I was looking for a descriptor and I think LtDan found it for me, rhubarb. Medium bodied with smooth dense fluffy carbonation, pillowy mouth-feel, leaves the mouth sticky.

Appearance: A dark maroon/auburn, with a fizzy gathering of whiteness. The bottle and pour displayed big chunks of goodness. Aroma: Belgian yeast, strawberry rhubarb pie filing , and other dark fruits. Taste: Bitter hops, dark fruit such as raisin, prune, and dried fig. Finishes bitter sweet. Mouthfeel: Feels almost syrupy, very coating. Overall; Not impressed. Sorry, it’s not bad, but it’s not spectacular.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, malts, nuts, wood, light caramel, light dark ripe fruit, figs, slight molasses, and some yeast. Poured brown/deep orange in color with a medium-sized, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Small, medium, large, and huge-sized particles throughout. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of malts, prunes, dark ripe fruits, light cocoa, slight toffee, slight caramel, nuts, figs, light wood, slight molasses, light raisin, slight brown sugar, and a slight hint of medicine. Medium to full body. Smooth texture. Average carbonation. Dark ripe fruit, toffee, caramel, raisin, fig, slight wood finish is clean and smooth. 10%ABV is undetectable.

dark brow some yeast floaties, large smooth thick light brown head. faint fruity, very subdued aroma, a bit flowery or soapy. flavor is fantastic. loads of different notes which are blended so well together that the initial impression is some sort of WOW experience, it takes some concentration to single out all the flavors. raisins, licorice, several kinds of sugar, candi, brown. honey, ripe grapes, very faint cocoa, very faint vanilla like note, alc very well hidden, it doesn’t come off as too strong or even alc strong, just lots of interesting flavor. spicy notes are here, but hidden below the main flavors, this works real well.

750 mL shared into tulips. Pours a clear, deep brownish amber with a billowing, three-finger tan head that has okay retention and some good lacing. Outstanding aroma of rum-soaked cherries, rum-raisin gelato, caramel, Belgian yeast, candied dark fruits. Taste is a big letdown: initially it is a cascade of the flavors mentioned above but then turns for the worse: the alcohol becomes incredibly cloying and the sweetness becomes stale, overly redundant with mouthfuls of white sugar added to flat Diet Pepsi. It really is sort of gross. Maybe my bottle is skunked or something but unlikely since it is 10%. This really is not very good at all. I’m very sad to say this, but I shared it with two other people and all three of us had to drain pour it. Jesus.
