Strong alcohol flavor. A decent amount of caramel flavor, very sweet but not unbalanced. Very nice to drink slowly, tasting how the flavors change as it warms up. Awesome. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Faint molasses aroma with a little bit of caramel. Beautiful color, hazy with some visible carbonation. Very sweet mouth explosion at first sip. Well balanced with some pepper. No shortage of flavor. Almost one dimensional with Belgian candi sugar dominating, but it works. Very carbonated mouthfeel initially. Excellent. TheEpeeist (1486), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Nursed the head like a baby for a few minutes until it calmed. Last glob of head pours out like Dairy Queen. Deep violet orange. Woody molasses, caramel, little coffee, and chocolate. Perfect level of sweetness. Never cloying. Rich, smooth, toasty. I love Heath Bars! f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2006 Pours a deep reddish-brown, with a small, lasting tan head. Spicy aroma. Taste is sweet, a bit sticky. Can pick out some caramel flavors, with some warm rum cake. Alcohol is well hidden in this smooth Belgian ale. Good, but not outstanding. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 16, 2006 Bottle/best before end of 2006. Pours a deep amber-burgundy color with a tight, dense and long-lasting beige head. Fairly mild, but complex aromas of raisn, fig, honey, pumpernickel bread, ripe apple and caramel are noted. Amazingly silky smooth, creamy palate for a Belgian due to the chewy, full body and the subdued carbonation. Initial flavors are sweet and rich reminiscent of ripe dark fruits, dark rum, caramel and buckwheat honey followed quickly by the presence of some moderate spicy notes of rye seeds, licorice, coriander and black pepper. Tons of floaties in the chalice, especially at the end of the bottle; quite "sludge-like" appearance. Finishes with a pleasant alcohol warming which blends perfectly with the ale’s overall sweetness. Another superb offering from this great Belgian brewery. SledgeJr (2983), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Molasses and treacle sweetness. Raspberries and carnivale candy apples. Aroma of honey and molasses networks perfectly with the candy like bing cherries of the flavor. Thick , outstanding, and unrelenting. thornecb (1810), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
