chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Jun 11, 2006 Cask (handpump) at Lambrettas, Bath, April 2006 (and various other bars around town). Abbey Ales is now pretty well established and this is their flagship beer. Much of the time its their only beer. Amber coloured. Rather faint aroma - difficult to pick up too much other than a light sweetish maltiness. That’s the initial impression on the palate too, with some toffee notes. Juicy fruit develops strongly. There’s some underlying bitterness to provide balance. Dries out on the finish, with more citric hops becoming apparent in the aftertaste. Not the biggest beer but there’s enough going on to maintain the interest.
Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Apr 29, 2008 Cask conditioned @ Star Inn, Bath. Light copper. Solid malt feel and unadventurous but tasty leafy hops well balanced. mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 23, 2007 [668-20070923] Cask @ Bag O’ Nails (Bristol, BR). Vinegar malt aroma has an earthy spice background and "cheese on toast with a bit of HP sauce" rounding things off. Clear, amber orange body with quick white bubbles. Candied ham base flavour also has off-peach and earthy meat notes. Medium body. This certainly does ring a few bells. Ungstrup (11408), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 14, 2007 Cask at GBBF 2007. A hazy golden beer with a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with a fine grassy note. The flavor is sweet malty wtih notes of caramel, leading to a dry bitter finish. ChristianScheffel (2263), Odense, Denmark Oct 30, 2007 Golden with a small white head. Malty aroma with herbal and grassy notes. Dry and malty flavour. Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 3, 2007 Healthy hazy blonde pour crowned by a solid 2cm white foam that mostly lasts. Grainy, grassy nose with fresh cereal flavours. Fruity passion fruits (kiwi notably) undertones grow underneath. Good, honest medium body. A fun drink that remains simple, but what is there is not encountered in every other cask ale.
