Commercial Description:
This is another Abbey Brewing Co. house recipe. This strong Trappist Style Ale is reminiscent of the winter ales brewed in the Belgium Monastery's centuries ago. This beer is brown in color and has a complexity of flavors ranging from dark chocolate to caramelized raisons with a hint of toffee. 11-12%ABV.

Oh hell yes. This is a great beer brewed by a great guy. Certainly has aromas of candy and fruit. Very delicious.

Draft... Clear ruby ale with orange highlights and a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The nose is full of sweet malt, fruity esters and tangy acids. The fruity flavor is medium sweet, moderately tart and lightly bitter. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, tart, tangy finish that dries out. Reminds me a bit of the New Glarus Unplugged Belgian Quad.

(Draught at Abbey Brewing Company, Miami Beach) Hazy amber color, offwhite head. Lots of figs and raisins in aroma, smoked notes, some toffe and with a vinous feeling. Fruity fig and raisin flavor, some spices, some hops, a bit vinous.

Growler from Abbey. The aroma has some strong fruit notes that run to the tart side of the spectrum, noticeable alcohol, but not overpowering and an oddly citrus tinged aroma. The body is dark brown with copious orange accents and holds a pinky sized diminishing tan head. Sweet and fruiting in the fore with some grainy notes and fairly bracing alcohol. Again there is a this lightly tart citrus note that is unexpected, but somewhat appealing. The finish grows mildly bitter and hot with alcohol though it is the dry citrus-like sweetness that lingers the lingest. The closest thing I can compare it to is an orange liquer.

Pours a deep dark maroon color, with a small off white head. Smells very fruity, almost wine-like, with a good dose of cherries, apples, dark malts, rasins, and very subtle candy sugar. The flavor is heavy on the sweet fruit side. Wasnt expecting this at all. Its almost a fruit beer, unlike any quad Ive ever tried. The cherry really stands out as the most dominant flavor. Light alcohol burn in the finish, but not bad at all for 12%. Unusual quad, but quite enjoyable.

While I really like Belgian-style beers I never know what to expect from the quad syle, and am as often as not disappointed. This is not one of those times. I felt this beer to be a fine example of the style. Aroma was a bit fruity and more roasty than I would’ve expected. Flavor was complex, as advertised, with some sour cherry up front followed by some raisin and backed with a lot of roastiness. And if furrow my brow and pretend really hard, I can even conjure up toffee. Mouthfeel was good but unremarkable. Quite nice. I’d drink this often if this bar was in Milwaukee. Recommended. I had this at The Abbey in Miami Beach on tap.

Tap @ the Abbey Brewing Co. Raisin colored, deep reddish hue. Aroma of rich malts. Flavors of sweet candi sugar, big raisins. Hints of dried cherry, and even some dried cranberry. So fruity, yum. A perfect comparison to 3 Phils. Plus the alcohol is well hidden. Thanks to Beershine for the drink. 24FEB08

Pours deep red with nary a head but needs it not for good looks. Compelling cherry nose. Mouthfeel is as soft as a kiss on the cheek. Taste is bready with a burst of sour cherry seeping through. Alcohol is so well-disguised I had two of them back to back. Nice stuff.
