Draft at the pub in South Beach. Pours an extremely dark mahogany brown to virtually black color. A foamy, dark brown head settles to a thin film. Thin sheets of frosted window-pane lacing protrude from the brooding body. Sweet chocolate syrup notes are first to greet the nose, followed by some burnt caramel, figs, plums, and anise. It smells so sweet that I fail to detect much of anything in the way of hop bitterness. The flavor too is sweet, chocolaty, and heavy on anise and licorice. Dark fruits seem boozy, like vodka soaked raisins and figs. The palate is big, sugary, and sticky, overly warm from the booze component. Too sweet for me, this brew did not impress as far as imperial stouts go.

Draft at the Abbey. Very dark brown pour with mahogany highlights and good brown head. Nose is alcohol, dark cherry, coffee, chocolate. Flavor is massively anise, bitter chocolate. Faint alcohol warming with a semi creamy soft body. Solid Impy stout, but not amazing.

Draft @ Abbey Brewing Company. Pours black with brown head. Burnt malt aroma with lots of licorice. Roasted malt flavor with licorice and chocolate. The licorice adds a twist to the ususal impy stout flavor. Full body with minimal carbonation. Good stuff.

Draught @ Abbey Brewing Company Miami. Small creamy almost brown head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, burned malt, floral, dried fruits, alcohol and mild dry peach like hoppy notes. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and light dry alcoholic texture. Moderated bitter and sweet flavor in balance. Lingering bitter roasted coffee finish with a fruity twist.

Wow that is good. First thing you will notice is that it is unlike most stouts- not chocolaty or coffee tasting, but instead light and fruity. I tasted grapes, pear, and prunes, but in amounts copious enough to fill you like any other Imperial Stout, difference is that this one goes down more easily.

Tap at Abbey. Great looking black pour with pillowy frothy head.Toasty malt aromas, robust dusty malts. Distant spice and pine. Nice body quite tasty overall.

On tap at Abbey. Thic lasting head. Black. weird sour spice perfume aroma with coffee underneath. Dominant anise seed flavour.

Aroma – Deep rich malt nose. You can smell the high alcohol from this beer.
Appearance – Dark brown in color, Nice thin head and clear.
Flavor – Rich Chocolate and coffee flavors mixed with the dark roasty malts.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, nice texture with a great stout finish.
Overall – I liked this stout it was very flavorful and filled with great spices and malts.
