tronraner (1411), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Oct 5, 2007 Draught at the brewpub. Pours black with amber around the edges and a dense tan head that disappears slowly. the aroma is nutty with a little chocolate and alcohol, some berry, and some earth. The flavor begins with a bitter hop twang, then an obvious raspberry tartness. Bitter chocolate and earth ease in there as do nutty tones. The finish has a crisp pine and raspberry kick, which fades into a chocolatey aftertaste with a little warmth. The raspberry is quite clear in this brew, but does not fall into the trap of becoming overwhelming like so many other fruit beers. Not bad at all. Nate (2239), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 17, 2007 Draught at Harrisburg festival. Has a nice raspberry aroma on top of burnt chocolate malt and mild smoke. Very fruity. Light alcohol presence. Dark black clear with thin brown lacing head. Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Starts tart and bitter with lots of raspberry flavor. Smoky malt, chocolate, and tart acidic finish. Bitter roasted after with a fruity tang to boot.
