Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
The beer was very deliberately brewed to have an alcohol content of 6.66%. A five pointed grist - Maris Otter Pale Ale malt, Malted Wheat, Chocolate Malt, Roast Barley and Cereal... with a wickedly-secret combination of hops....Black Mass has the flavour of dark fruits, bitter chocolate and liquorice with a bitter coffee, warm, alcoholic finish. Decadent. Black as sin.

1. Cask Handpump at the Station Buffet, Stalybridge 16/11/2002 Love the pump clip design on this one, enticed me straight to it! Black coloured stout with some fruitiness and alcohol present. Smooth on the palate with a bitter roast finish. 2. Cask Handpump at Wilkie’s Tavern, Warrington 21/04/2003 Black slightly strong and fruity with slightly dry bitter finish. 3. Cask Stillage at St Phillips Social Club, Sheffield 04/10/2003 Dark red smooth strong and fruity with a lasting roast finish.

Cask at GBBF 08. Dark brown, tan head. Chocolate nose with a bit of roast. Chocolate, fruit and a tiny bit of coffee hit the tongue. Stands out in the mass.

Cask at Glenrothes BF 08. Black to brown with a thin bubbly beige head. Nose is lively malty, sweet warming and some syrupy. Initial taste is baby powder, chalky, malt, some attacking bitterness. Espresso strength and more chalkiness in the palate. Little bit offensive, but on the whole, good.

Cask conditioned gravity, White Cliffs BF 08. Very very dark ruby, thin beige head. Rich toasty aroma, nice malts, choc, bitter espresso. But this is all about the lovely bitter choc in mouth. Rich dark bitter choc, with some hop on finish. Some dark fruits and strawberry jam.

Cask at GBBF 2007. A dark amber-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malthy with strong notes of caramel as well as light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malthy with notes of caramel, alcohol, and roasted malt, leading to a finish where especially the caramel notes carries thru.
