leaparsons (3878), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Jul 31, 2005 Cask, Out of the Vaults, Leicester. Ruby red/brown with a small head. Aromas are toffee malts with lots of berries, some sourness, quite earthy and hoppy. Flavours are fruity, dry and hoppy. Not so malty as the aroma with a bitter, dry fruity finish.
Ethereal (869), London, Greater London, England Aug 3, 2008 Cask at the White Horse, 12th July 2008 with renffisch. Has a good deep mahogany colouration but the aroma is surprisingly alcoholic for the strength. Nicely malty at first with a late-appearing hop balance and a long bitter finish. albertane (242), Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England Jun 15, 2008 Cask at the King William IV, Nottingham. This brown beer has a sweet toffee base but what sets it out is its unexpectedly deeply bitter finish. It’s not my favourite Abbeydale beer but it was perfectly enjoyable. harrisoni (5106), Ashford, Kent, England Mar 26, 2008 Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 08. It’s funny, I could see what people were saying about this on the Saturday, but my rating from the Friday still stands. Chestnut colour with thin bubbly off white head. Yep, you get the amarillos on the aroma, some caramel. Fairly watery in mouth, not a lot of condition. Some good amarillo on finish. OK, but just lacks some body. Mes_and_Sim (4176), London, Greater London, England Mar 25, 2008 A Mes rate: Gravicask at Planet Thanet 2008. Dark copper coloured. Glorious hoppy aroma with lovely barley, awesome notes of ginger and some slight orange. The Amarillo shows through really well in the flavour with some nice earthy malt and a gloriously bitter finish. Bags of flavour and character, gorgeous spicy notes. Stunning stuff for a 3.8% beer and a top drawer all day drinker drop of English. sleepylopes (270), New York, USA Mar 24, 2008 smooth spicy nose with amarillo present in taste and aroma. Mild in flavor with a stronger than expected finish all overcooked hop and grass. Drinkable and thin.
