Commercial Description:
Cask; Occasional.
Dark Angel is a smouldering melange of dark-noted flavours sitting like hot embers in a chalice, brooding like a sleeping serpent dreaming of wrapping you in its warm, honey smooth coils. A combination of MOPA and dark malts gives the rich flavour to a brew which is in other respects so like Archangel.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 9/1/08. Dark reddish-brown with a decent off-white head that left rings down the glass. Aroma of dark chocolate, fruit and some roasted notes. The flavour had plenty of tasty chocolate, with a smooth mouth feel and a long dry finish. Excellent.

Cask handpump at The Wellington, Birmingham. Brown with a short off-white head. Hint of chocolate in the scent. Quite watery, a bit sweet, with a creamy mouthfeel and a dry end. Very unusual milky taste with some roast hop. Quite good, but I thought it was lacking interest.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Swan & Rushes, Leicester. An almost black beer with no head. The aroma is dry and a little smoky. The taste is dry and fishy wih smoke and roast malts. Some fruit also. In spite of all these flavor characteristics, it’s actually quite mild. Pretty good.

The commercial description is a little over the top! Nevermind, this is a good example of a porter with roast malts and a light sweetness. Be afraid, a bit afraid...
