Commercial Description:
Abbey Ale honors the ancient tradition of monks who perfected the art of brewing beer to support the monastery and the brothers with their "liquid bread". We offer up our support and thank them with a 25 cent donation to St. Joseph’s Abbey with every bottle of this heavenly brew. Dark in amber color, the aroma of caramel, fruits and cloves invites you to contemplate the creamy head of this "dubbel" or double ale. Abita Abbey Ale is a malty brew, top-fermented and bottle aged to rapturous perfection.

Cloying and clovy but reasonable price for this type. Unmemorable so perhaps I should not of waited months to rate it.

Deep muddy brown coloured body with a thinnish fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pears, apples, yeast, concord grapes and sour lemons - nice! Medium-bodied; Assertive yeast and apple characteristics with a good malt backbone, some alcohol and pit fruity notes of figs and prunes. Aftertaste very pleasant and long-lasting, a good amount of sugars arise, while some mild yeast and malt characteristics round out the flavours. Overall, a pretty good dubbel and without a doubt the best Abita beer I’ve had. Definitely impressed with this from the brewery, get it if you like dubbels, since this is a respectable beer from an American producer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 27-November-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 13-December-2009.

Bottle shared by a unknown soul at the beer party in SLC 2009. Pours a dark caramel color with a large white head. The aroma is sweet spices, hops and light caramel. The flavor is similar; noticeable earthy hops, spices and caramel, light fruit. Enjoyable.

22oz - Red color with white head. Good lacing. Malt and a nutty flavor, similar to Abita’s Pecan Ale. Overall it reminded me of a bock more than an Abbey ale. Good but wouldn’t repeat. I am happy to see Abita expanding their horizons.

22 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a haze orange copper color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of nutty malts with notes of caramel and elementary school cafeteria fruit cocktail. Taste is nuts, caramel, cherries, chocolate. Medium bodied. Decent.

Really like this beer and not overly carbonated as i expected. Fruity banana flavoring sticks out in this beer and goes nicely with prime rib.
