Aroma was junk, grass sweetness and something not good, like wet dog. Flavor um yeah NASTY almost like wet grass that was closed up for weeks. Very thin mouthfeel. Wow no more no more please.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Clear gold. Little aroma. Bitter drying taste. Little redeeming taste but still isn’t awful. All the Helles qualities and no doppel. 17thfloor (1507), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | May 31, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a glowing golden with a medium thick frothy white head. Aroma is definitely German-esque, grassy, spicy, sweet, sugary cereal, corn. Whoa, flavor is crazy odd, strangely bitter and sweet candied corn meal, super boozy, blech. Malt liquor is right. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 31, 2009 Light golden pour with nice initial head that fades quickly. Floral hoppy nose with some sweet notes. Smooth, buttery mouthfeel with an enjoyable sweet and hoppy finish. Alcohol level is noticeable. rayOfBeer (319), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 28, 2009 Poured from bomber a light blond with large creamy white head. Nose is dough, sweet malt, and a small touch of hay. Flavor is initially malt and honey sweet which blends into notes of toasted cereal, doughy yeast, and some light grassy hay hops. Palate begins sweet, sticky and a little creamy and ends with some alcohol heat. I was not sure what to expect when buying this one, but it turned out nicely. I’d buy it again. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 26, 2009 Pours a very light golden amber with a big fluffy white head that shows decent retention and lacing. It’s definitely on the lighter side of things for a doppelbock.
The aroma is dominated by light roasted grains with hints of malty sweetness. There are hints of nuts as well.
The taste is similar with a pale toasted malt backbone that supports just a hints of fruity sweetness and a dry, slightly bitter finish. It might be just a tad heavier than the aroma with a bit of yeasty spiciness as well.
The mouthfeel is certainly a bit light for the style. It’s smooth with lots of carbonation.
I definitely enjoyed this beer, though it’s a little short of doppelbock characteristics. daknole (3027), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
