Bottle. Beautiful golden color with a bright white head. Nice lacing. Fruit and spice nose. Honey and melon rind jump out at me. Sweet malt and yeast in the mouth. A fair amount of alcohol is present but the finish is really dry. I’m pretty impressed with how the alcohol builds the flavor in the mouth and then fades into the background. Some yeast fruitiness jumps out midway through the taste as well. The hops are present but provide just the right balance. I’m surprised by the poor ratings of this beer. I may be way off, but I really enjoyed this beer.

mazing beer, it lives up to the very definition of a doppelbock. "The flavor is very rich and malty, with toasty flavors and noticeable alcoholic strength. Most versions are fairly sweet, due to little or no hop flavor. Paler versions may have a drier finish." It has malt flavor, it is just drier than most doppelbock beers you know. Most doppelbocks end with "ator". I really like how abita makes the beer uniquely Louisiana by naming it gator. Great beer.

Enjoyed this on draught at the Blue Dog in Lafayette LA. Silky smooth taste. Alcohol well hidden. Thought it tasted more like a weak barley wine than a doppelbock, but very tasty. Can’t wait to go back to the Blue Dog and have another one or two or three....

This beer pours a golden yellow color with a small white head. The flavor is verry malty and GOOD.

I can’t believe the score on this. This is a great beer for it’s style. Pours with a tall frothy head that lasts. Aromas have a freshness about it. Like a cool breeze in a candy store. Theres a slight haze to the golden/copperish color beast. Full nectar with mild carbonation. The flavor profile is fresh like the aromatics. A defined sweetness is not cloying. It’s a pretty nice beer folks despite the dreary ratings.

This beer is billed as a Louisiana Malt Liquor but that is because of its mighty 12% abv. This beer is actually a Pale Double Bock, a big malty, smooth and warming take on a classic German dopple bock. They serve this beer in an 8 oz wine glass at the brewpub, but they also allow you to take 1/2 gallon growlers of this beer to go, which I did! Abita Andygator pours to a deep golden color with a tight white head that quickly fades, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is the first things that snaps at you. Big sweet and pale malt aromas marry with peppery waves of alcoholic strength. The palate is firm with lots of big sweet and pale malt flavors, paired with a backdrop of whiskey flavor. The body on this beer is very round and clean, making this beer dangerously drinkable. This gator has some serious bite, and you could get in to some big trouble, you would never believe you are drinking a 12% abv beer. Andygator finishes with more big pale malt and whiskey flavors up front, then slides into a very warming and soothing alcohol burn.
