Commercial Description:
Abita Bock is brewed with Perle hops and British pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Available January-March.

(Best by 06/07/08) Odd tasting lager that is sweet and acrid, but not to the point of being vinegar-like. The nose is full of tart cherries and apple skin. Maibock? Not! This taste like a weird Lambic Lager hybrid that has gone awry.

Enjoyed the sweet malt flavor. Solid body. Dark blond color. One of the best American Heller Bocks I’ve tried!

This is the second "Mardi Gras" themed beer I’ve had this year. The first being Lost Abbey Carnevale Ale. ( Which is an interesting trend.) 12oz twist-off bottle. Pours a light amber color, white foamy head. Aroma of a pale lager. Light aroma of caramel. Hints of corn. Flavor is rich and malty. Not necessarily sugary, but the flavor consists of a rich cereal, malted barley. Rich flavored and somewhat medium bodied. Pleasant bitterness to follow. I am rather impressed with this offering.

Clear copper pour with a thin tan head. Sweet and malty aroma. Earthy malt taste, some caramel and medium carbonation. Nothing really exciting.

A decent heller bock. Aroma was mostly caramel malt with a faint hoppiness in the aftertaste. Pour was a nice deep brown with a one finger off white head. Taste was very sweet. Mostly caramel malt with a sticky sugary aftertaste. Nice carbonation and mouthfeel. Not bad.

Pours a very darker amber brown. No head. Nose is crisp and airy. And apples. Flavor is very sugary sweet; too much so in my opinion. On the end an out of place metallic tone. Bordering on burnt caramel is there too. Feel is extremely sticky and thick on the liquid and very low on the carbonation. I have to say that overall you can drink this one, but I don’t really see any good reason to. Leaning way too far to one side, it doesn’t deliver a balanced and worthy experience.

This was not much different from a typical pale bock that you see during the Spring, but this one seems to be a little more watery. A nice beer still.
