This was a much better beer than the amber I tried, but that’s not really saying too much. Still the stark contrast between the two made for a better tasting of this beer than normal i’d say. The caramel malts balance great with the subtle german style hops. I haven’t had much from this style but I think this sort of beer is my favorite german so far. Go to New Orleans during Mardi Gras and get this beer! :) Like the guy below me said, Let the good times roll! milewide (625), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 5, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours light gold with a very small white head. Nice malty spicy nose. Taste is malty, caramel, spicy, with a small hop profile. Thin body. Not a "full" beer in taste though-it leaves you wishing for more.Very Octoberish. Almost a session bock-which is not what I want in my bock. Not Abita’s best effort. I’ve got 5 more if anyone wants one-I’ll trade this and the Jockamo for any regional/mainstream beer. wxman (592), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 27, 2005 Mild malty aroma, golden amber color, moderate head with some lacing. Malty sweet flavor with some hops. Not overly flavorful but quite refreshing, but not really a Maibock IMO - - more like Vienna lager. Palate is clean. Good thirst quencher w/o much alcohol warmth in spite of 6+ ABV. MikeF (528), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

There is some strange sour/fruity aroma that I can't quite explain, probably because it has the aroma of something thats deadly to inhale. Given the looks of this one, I was surprised by its somewhat full bodied nature. For only 6.13% they did a good job of getting the alcohol to come through in the flavor. It doesn't detract much, but its right there with the hoppy finish. The maltiness is somewhat muted by the alcohol and hops. I give this a "not too bad for looking like a dehydrated person's piss." | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 27, 2008 This beer poured a golden/amber color with a nice white head that lasted a while. Aroma was malty with hints of caramel and toffee. Flavor was very much the same with some hop bitterness coming through to balance the flavor. Very little lacing, good mouthfeel and carbonation. Good beer.
