Commercial Description:
Abita Bock is brewed with Perle hops and British pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Available January-March.

Maibocks are a favorite style for me. this is a great beer, huge malt nose, decent hops, and a relatively high ABV compared to most beers.

12 oz bottle. Pours to a beautiful, bright, deep golden color, with a nice, white head, that fades, and a good carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of good toasty and pale malt aroma. The palate is very polished, with really good toasty, light nutty, and pale malt flavor, on a round clean body. This beer finishes with more of those really great toasty and pale malt flavors, then ends some herbal hop balance to take some of the malty edge off this beer. Very well done, maibock, with really fantastic malt character in aroma and flavor. Great Madri Gras beer! Match this one with a big slice of King Cake, and Laissez les bons temps rouler!

clear dark amber with a small but strong head that slowly disappears but leaves a nice lacing on the glass. lots of bubbles were clinging to the sides of the glass. Head wasn’t large enough and retention wasn’t good enough, but still it did well. Predominately sweet malt with some toasty and spicy notes as well. Clean and quite nice. Good for the style. Wow! It actually tastes like a bock. Even more so than Shiner Bock and this is a Helles. A solid malty flavor with the hops pulling through in the end to a dry and bitter aftertaste. Some toasted and alcoholic notes are also detected. Well balanced and interesting. This is a good representation of the maibock style. Finally! An Abita beer that isn’t too carbonated or watery. I am very particular about mouthfeel, more so than a lot of factors and I had to remind myself I was trying to review the mouthfeel, because I kept going back to the taste. I like it when I don’t have to think about mouthfeel. A nice prickly sensation from the moderate-low carbonation complemented the flavor nicely. My only complaint is that it turned just a tad watery towards the end. This would be my year-round session brew if it weren’t a seasonal. Just downright tasty and I got this stuff really fresh. I didn’t expect it out till January. A great beer for Mardi Gras and football. Well done, Abita. A near flawless stylistic represenation with great attributes that bring it beyond its stylistic descriptions. I really liked this beer and wish that Abita made it a year-round brew since their Purple Haze is awful, their Amber overcarbonated, and their Turbo Dog too watery.

Abita (Mardi Gras) Bock is a very good beer. It has a fine, fruity aroma, attractive tan appearance, and as for flavor, it has just the right blend of hops, giving it a good, bitter taste. Abita beer feels good in the mouth as one sips it. Nice body. Overall, this is an excellent product. Goes well with crackers or seafood. RJT

Crystal clear light gold. Thin tiny bubbled white head. Slow carbonation. Toasty sweet malt aroma laced with spicy hops and spring water notes. Bold and crisp. Nice toasty sweet malt base, spicy alcohol bite and German hop spicy/floral bitterness. Medium body. Clean and easy drinking. Very stylish. Finishes with a pear like juiciness. I was expecting less and this was quite the surprising Helles Bock.

Here is a very well done Maibock from a great LA microbrewery. This beer has a nice malty nose, a crisp, clean malt palate, and a sightly warming finish. A good example of a classic German beer style.

Good stuff. Well-balanced, a pleasing amount of that indescribable "bockiness," and generally good appearance.

Good malty aroma and body, but a tiny bit sweeter than I’d like. Still, this is one of my favorite local beers (of the ones that are still around).
