Aroma was pine, wood and a little bit of hops. Pour was a dark brown with a thin one finger off white head. Taste was a little bland in the beginning, with pine and spices coming out as it warms. Aftertaste of wood and a bit of hops. Decent carbonation but just not flavorful enough to be great. nearbeer (1866), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 10, 2007 12 oz that has a shiny silver label, I assume this is the 2007 version. Medium-sized and lasting head on this uncloudy, dark copper-brown beer. Aroma is spicy wood and slight cocoa. Flavor is unsweetened cocoa, toasted nut, dried wood, fruity and piney hops, and some unidentified dry-earthy herb-spice(s). The hops combine with the subtle spice to give a nice bitter-fruit, deep woody finish to this beer. Palate is almost medium bodied, smooth and dry. Haven’t had the previous versions, but this year’s is unique and flavorful. Holdwine (909), Beertimore, Maryland, USA

Spicy, piney, not overly hoppy. Decent drink. rfox3 (3), Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA does not count | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 3, 2007 Bottled. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 14, 2007 Cloudy orange appearance, sweet nose. Malty taste with orange peel. Piney blandish aftertaste. 28%??? Naw, the sweet maltiness deserves a better rating though it does not have the spicycomplexity of a xmas ale.
