I tasted a brief sweetness along with nuts and malt. The finish was crisp and dry, kind of watery. Not very spicy, I expected more nutmeg or something. The bottle I had was a few years old i think so that might be why. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Pours a dark amber with no head. Aroma of malts, some nutmeg and hops. Similar taste. Slight hop finish. No flavors really stand out, different than most Christmas seasonals, old bottle perhaps mellowed this one out. Butters (1651), Virginia, USA

Clear chestnut pour with almost reddish highlights and wispy tan head. Sweet malty aroma with some toastiness. Flavor has hints of cherries, molassis, toffee, and lots of caramel. Nutmeg in the flavor, No real other ’holiday’ spices, but that might be because of the age. Interesting that they change the recipe every year. epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Aroma of hops, citrus, and grapefruit. Taste of the same with a bit of malt. This light bodied brew comes across as some sort of pale ale and not an amber. Pretty lacking. jujubeast6000 (795), Houston, Texas, USA

Pours an amber brown body, small whitish reddish clear color head, diminishing. Hoppy aroma, bitter and grapefruit. Some dustiness too. Enticing. Malty taste. Some dustiness. Some carbonation. Some nuttiness, English maltiness and some English style hops too. Tmoney99 (4774), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Pours clear dark amber color with a moderate frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate sweet roasted malty aroma. Medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a medium grainy sweet finish of an average duration.
My expectation where not met. Nate (2556), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 29, 2009 From bottle. Very mild roast aroma with light fruity character and a bit of floral hops. Not strong in the nose one way or another. Dark amber clear with thin off-white head. Medium watery body with medium-high carbonation. Starts with light roasted sweetness and some grainy astringency. Fairly bitter notes throughout including the finish. Light chalky bitter after. No distinguishing spice that I would make it a Christmas ale.
